Concur, same for me as a rule of thumb. Although if i run a HM, 2-2.5hr, also don’t replenish in between until i finish. Perhaps with replenishment in between will help. Yet to try to know the difference. But I will usually drink approx. 0.5-1litre of water before i start my run.
I also drink a lot of water before I run and could do a half marathon without any drink as long I run in a cloudy weather . But after reading what Ender mentioned it is not good for kidney for not drinking water. I will make a fast one from the water cooler.

After run. I reward myself with a can of soft drink like coke (when compete long distance like HM) any distance less than that. I won't consume soft drink .

Hi can a beginner with sub 7.30m/km run finish a maratron?

Dont see why not as far as aerobically is concerned, but bro it's more than fitness.

Coz also have to practice things like nutrition for eg, some people do throw up when heat stressed, cannot stomach any fuel, a rare few might not even take in 100 plus or water. Vicious cycle then, leading to DNF.

And running that slow = exposure to the sun past 9.30am possibly (if not cloudy day)....... last year during stanchart that would be on WCH. Major fugfest i heard.....ambulances etc. So heat training.
Remember, the slower you run, the worse it gets, so another spiral down kinda vicious cycle in which those not so well trained lagi have it worse and worse.

If you are already at tempo at around 7+ mins pace (5hr+ timing as per pacing but probably 6hr+ in reality with all factors in), that is not a low RPE for a FM, so you'd also be in latter pens which starts later, i think with so very little buffer, you can REALLY hit that period (post 9am ish) in which the sun is really !#@!@#. Again, vicious cycle.

Not sure how well you are able to oxidise and use fats instead of glycogen, but some people really just bonk and can barely walk when their glycogen stores are used up. While some others still can jog (very slowly) and hence the cut off time might not be an issue.

For my kid, i know when he bonks hard, he needs to sit down one, walk also got issue, then i bring him fuel, first and foremost any type of soda water. 🤣
Unfortunately that also means at the moment he still would find it hard to cut body fats.

Crampings due to long extended efforts, this one i dont know how to train as i am not a cramper (never cramped before actually). Depends on your body and muscles training and race pacing (too hard in the beginning), neuromusclar even, in fact i came across one factor might be genetics predisposition even. Proper hydration/electrolytes intake may or may not matter sometimes.

In short, you would not wanna face GI issues, this is not a 1hr 1.5hrs race. You might still survive a 2hr+ HM without anything, but even though i am not an expert .......dont think FM many recreational runners can.

Anyway, not an expert at all in marathons, never run once....the longest race i have participated spanned merely just over 2hrs for a duathlon as i am not an endurace kia. But i have vomitted a few times before coz of fueling and maybe even water/drinks ingestion. Mainly is VO2max sessions, Z2 still ok. It's probably a lot based on intensity/RPE. (maybe = coz never vomit in actuality, but nearly vomit can already feel the stuff up there in my chest reading to projectile out)

tldr - dont enter a FM just coz one wanna prove a point or so that can tick that off in the bucket list, set a shorter distance like 10k/HM but run a competitive time for your age group? Unless if you are really able to run a local FM like SCSM well enough.

Thanks for your advises. ya i still undecide yet as i haven't try LSD b4 so i do not my max distance for now. For now i doing 4 runs per week at around 1/2 hr each nia. ya i do take in factors like heat and timing as i start at 7.30 sure can't maintain the full m in that timing de. sure peak and drop de. lastly i do scare of cramps.

Then maybe can try slowly ramping up the distance fast and see how well you do. 10% increase per week is decent, eg now you are running 5k prob......next week try 5.5, then 6, then 6.6, 7.2, 8, 8.8, 9.7, 11, 12, 13.5 - in a 2 months period. Quite tight but cant be helped, we work with what we've got.

Shd still be able to reg for stanchart i think, hope slots not sold out by mid Oct. If not going smooth then register for HM.

If try +20 to 30% per week, i think more likely than not will get injured eventually. Unless if you already have a very good base.
You might try +15% a week and see tho.......

Story to share : Im more like a shorter 3-5k runner. have trained for 10k before (not much lah, just ran longer nia, not 10k specific workouts). Then after 10k (max distance 11-12k thereabouts), i vain, just tried so-called "long runs" by jumping straight into it. Coz people long runs 20-30k mah. First time 17k, ok.
Second run in the next week 18.8k, yes i could still manage a good pace at tempo effort no real serious effort/sweat. But first time in my life metatarsal pain, ie the front part of the feet the bones. Heng within a few weeks recovered.

More likely than not if you dont progressively load it up, is cannot work out ......

Possible if you start training from now… assuming you clocking 15km per week currently based on 4 runs a week. But there will be a lot of sacrifices along the way so you have to ask yourself whether you are able to make those sacrifices. Like having at least 2-3 hours for your long runs every week on top of your training. You might need to clock in at least 5-6 runs per week also.

Got slight blister n ache feet. Luckily after a night sleep, fully recovered
blisters no direct relationship with hydration issue perhaps, more likely to fitting of shoes and socks. Good to know you are now well recovered. box tick and looking forward to more of your new challenges :giggle:

try mixing shorter distances, eg. 5km at higher speeds with long distances, eg. 10km, gradually increase to beyond 30km. To many, 30km is a mental threshold cos once you are able to run continously for 30km and still feel ok to carry on, you are on path to completing the FM. Many who trains for marathon, will do at least 2x30km runs as date approaches the FM date. In addition, do not neglect strength training

even if you are not going for competitive timing and merely challenging yourself, it is good to prep yourself appropriately to increase your chance of succeeding. the more you do longer distance, the more your body is able to get used to longer distance and sustain or recover during your long distance runs. This is why many do Z2 LSD to build up the base.

My 1st marathon also have the same preparation like u. Run 5km to 7km only. I walked and ran and finished it at 6hr 45 mins. I really walk most of the time during the race.

Sometime blisters also happened if your shoe is too loose with rubbing and shifting .

I highly recommend this product if u able to get it . It is called foot glide and used to sell it at Watson and only can get at Amazon now .

After I applied this ..I never have any blisters on my foot during my long run.
