Also at Kona over the weekend, heartbreak for Lucy Charles Barclay.
(she actually won 1st place past 2 T100 races)

She really was strugging during the run, at the aid stations a bit delirious. Possible due to heat
Really bad day, despite with heat training.

The heat and humidity shd have been no joke.

Taylor Knibb also peng san  (she's one of the top mid/long distance triathletes, she's 2024 T100 championship winner)

Personally, also one of the reasons why i dont do real endurance events (here in SG weather environment context).
It's begins to decouple with fitness past a certain distance/duration + speed/pace (ie power output)

Wow, esp with pre-exhaustion (swim and bike)
Elite women at the Ironman Kona race run at a pace of approximately 3 minutes 57 seconds per kilometer, which is the pace for a marathon time of 2 hours and 48 minutes.

T100 distance they do around 3:40-3:45 min/km

This is crazy. Heat index of 37 deg C yesterday @ Kona.
Not as warm as T100 SG where it was like 2 or 3 deg hotter, but then the distances are different.

Still can't believe as of now that 2 of the very best would be wiped out by the heat....even with heat training.
This kind of conditions at Kona Hawaii is not very far away from SG during mid afternoon.

Actually Taylor Knibb shd be the champ....... she DNFed just under 3km to go from finish before the current winner overtook her minutes behind. Lucy Charles Barclay a bit difficult to tell coz she DNFed at mile 17, but she was "lead pack" too (Lucy in the video chased by Taylor).

No wonder my ex-colleague hospitalised and ICU 2 weeks and 6-9 months after then fully recover from heat injury.
Same full ironman distance.

Hope no lasting / permanent injuries for these 2, still wanna see them battling head-to-head in T100

8:14 on the clock when it happened

The third fella 21:04 only does parkruns as trainings.
Dan (first fella @ 18:17) is the only one who also runs as well as cycles......think he not young also already and confirm oldest in the group, shd be coming to 50.

18:17
20:03

Taylor knibb using Kask Utiopia Y helmet. I think the heat index really no joke esp for such long races.
