That's a good one. I'm still figuring that out. It has to do with my goals. I train mainly for overall fitness, given the finite resources I have. CrossFit comes pretty close to what I envision i'd like to be. However, I think most boxes in SG focuses primarily too much on WODs.
Currently i'm learning the olympic lifts so I can include it in my own personal block periodization for the coming years. (Like first 3 months on strength, next 3 months power).
It requires focus. At this point, at this point in time I rather use my time and energy to learn the olympic lifts.
Personally, my ideal program for overall fitness would be something like
1) Barbell strength training (Mainly squats or deadlifts) twice-thrice a week
2) Bodyweight strength training with rings for upper body
3) Explosive movements (olympic lifts) once a week
4) Conditioning (agility training/sprints/tabata/circuits/sports with friends) once a week
5) Floreio/Ido Portal/Yoga movements/stretching could probably be done everyday
6) some LISS Swimming/Walking
Haha. Confirm have to manage once I start a family hopefully. Probably can stick with 1,5 and 6. Or at least no. 5.
I like that - "overall fitness". I too subscribe to that approach, aiming for breadth rather than depth in a specific area, although I must admit I've been neglecting strength and power.
that list is pretty comprehensive and is also something which i am working towards. I'm currently doing 2 days of BW and 2 days of weights, mobility and cardio/conditioning everyday.
i'm not sure about you, but I find that learning the technicalities of a movement (be it rowing, running or olympic lifts), is really fulfilling and makes the sport/keeping fit so much easier.
5,6 - is something which you can easily do with your family! I've made it a point to join my mom for her walks whenever I can and finish up with some stretching/yoga/mob work after.
Sorry for the long reply! But keep on keeping on bro, your disicpline and progress throughout the years is a source of motivation for me!
btw, just a headsup, SOS is hosting a weightlifting workshop and a Ian King seminar on 12th April (?).

What do you recommend? More core training?
Also what do you think of gzcl method?
