Actually the ultimate consideration for ang bao and pek kim should be the same. ie. To help.
Imho there's no basis to assume wedding couples are all rich and bereaved families are all poor.

I will minimally try to help the wedding couple break even on their wedding dinner. eg. If a table banquet for 10 at that hotel typically charges around $1.5k, then my ang bao will be minimally $150 for 1 pax or $300 for 2 pax. Any extra will depend on my relationship with the wedding couple.
