Kingston or Crucial?

Have been using KVR all my life. Need to transfer RAM to sis's PC so I'm out to get a pair to replace, and having thoughts of trying Crucial since I've been using their SSD and so far so good.

I'm looking at the normal KVR 1600 DDR3 CL11 and the Crucial 1600 DDR3 CL11, 4GB stick both going for $30/pc at Fuwell.

Are there any known caveats for the Crucial? I'm not into overclocking nor gaming. Will there be any justification to pay 30% more for HyperX or Ballistix?

If u r not into overclocking, get bare RAMs will do, unless u wan to pay for that extra aesthetics appeal.

For valueRAMs, all brands behave and function the same. Kingston valueRAMs might differ from Crucial, Corsair, Adata or GSkill valueRAMs in terms of paper specs. But at the end of the day, u dont feel any difference in real life. RAM is just RAM. When u use the comp, u won't feel the advantage of RAM. U will only feel the shortcomings of not enough RAM.

Warranty wise, no difference amongst the brands. Lifetime limited warranty, so as long as that model of RAM is still in production, the RAM is usually replaced by distro for u during warranty. Different brands simply means which distro u wanna deal with.

Ok I will go take a look later and just get the loose pack sticks... maybe try Crucial. Both distro by Convergent right?

or the other option is go market place to buy 2nd hand ram, will confirm be cheaper and most of the time is lifetime warranty

the ram is inside the pc, not like casing where you can see it from outside... does the design matter?

It matter if the processor heat sink doesn't allowed "tall" ram module. Some model of slim casing desktop system cannot take normal height ram module, only half height type.

One could not buy tall heat spreader RAMs and use a Noctua DH14. There is clearance to check.

Half height as in the height of a valueRAM (a.k.a. "bare" RAMs) or literally 1/2 the height of a valueRAM? I tot only regular DIMM and SODIMM RAM modules are available to consumers.

all the same, even if u buy xmp mode ram also can hardly notice the difference..

if u want cheapo get the crucial green pcb ram from amazon, think it's the cheapest i can find liao

Bought Crucial... inside box can't see. Reach home take out then realize physical chip size different. Damn... OCD stuff...

1.35V means Crucial is DDR3L. Kingston is normal DDR3 at 1.5V.

There is no catch. Lower voltages also allows you to use on selected skylake b series mobo.
