DDR3L is low voltage at 1.35v, DDR3 is 1.5v, nothing to do with the brand.

Most of the ultrabook are using DDR3L, newer Macbook/air are using them but in different name LPDDR3 SDRAM.

would that make any real performance difference if using other RAM like hyper X Fury, Corsair LPX with higher clock ?

Sure why not.

The only disadvantage is that valueRAMs are single channel RAMs, while x99 platform accepts up till quad channel RAM configs. So the performance loss is there for extreme usage scenarios and benchmarks, but no diff for most usage scenarios.

Limited lifetime.

All RAMs have the same warranty, regardless of brand. The only time warranty is different is export sets that have no warranty.

Wait a min... moment of blur... the ram slots come in pairs right? I thought as long as I plug 2 sticks, eg 2 x 4GB, it will be running in dual channel? At least that was the case (I believe) when dual channel just came out... last time when I was still more enthu about PC

Lowest common denominator.

U need a dual-channel RAM kit (2 sticks of RAM of the same type) for dual-channel. If u put 2 sticks of single-channel, both sticks will work on single channel.

Channel is like RAID 0 your HDD/SSD.

Dual channel means the information is passed from CPU to memory via 2 channels. Like RAID 0 2 pieces of HDD. Quad channel is like RAID 0 4 pieces of HDD.

2 pieces of single channel RAMs in the same config is like 2 HDDs working in non-RAID configs.

Actually, seems to me single channel or dual channel isn't a great deal of difference.

FYI, I'm not trying to find out cos of any performance difference, just curious about about whether enenyi's statement is accurate for my case. If I have 4 sticks anyway, which CPU-Z reports are in quad, might as well find out whether they are working in quad. That's all.

Any tips on what to test/lookout for? Just did a quick bench with SiSoft Sandra, got: 44.22GB/s.

U take a quad-channel RAM kit (4x8 GSkill Ripjaws 4 or Corsair Vengence LPX) from any review sites, overclock to that frequency (2400MHz or 2666MHz, no idea if valueRAMs support XMP profiling), then check results against the review sites.

If results the same, then quad/dual/single channel doesn't matter. If the quad-channel has better results, then quad-channel has some optimizations that make it faster than single/dual channel.

Don't get mix up. Single and double side memory doesn't determine whether it is single or dual channel.

Dual/single Channel is DIFFERENT, nothing to do with the physical attribute of the memory stick. It is determine by the motherboard itself.
