is it possible to do a day trip to koh lipe from langkawi?

From Lipe to Langkawi, your passport will need to be handed over (along with other people's) to the crew.

Factor in the chaos of getting back your passport, ferry timing, clearing immigration at pattaya beach and your itinerary, I don't recommend a day trip.

Just read the blog, the infomation are accurate and correct.

visited koh lipe last weekend but only for day trip cause lack of time. went via langkawi

immigration staff knew i was going for day trip so i was the first to clear immigration. spent 5 hours on the island snorkelling, swimming, eating, motorbike tour. very shiok and may consider going back to do island hopping

i m think i made the right choice. i was deciding between pulau payar or koh lipe since price of tour was similar about RM200+and koh lipe has more beautiful scenery. The beach is like heaven compared to cenang beach in langkawi:s13:

Just wondering - from Koh Lipe to Langkawi the earliest ferry leaves at 10:30 am but the flight to Singapore is at 8:50am - so how to get past this hurdle ... stay overnight in Langkawi?

Yup, you have no other choice. I took the 10.30am ferry and expected to reach Langkawi at 1pm...delay until I reach at 2pm. So best thing to do is take the previous day's evening ferry and spend a night in Langkawi.

Good choice made. Koh Lipe has the best water around the region only to rival PH's Islands. If can, do a full trip just in Lipe. There are many things to do related to water and exploration.

Or another alternative is to take ferry to Pak Bara Pier, then take taxi to Hatyai airport. See which one is cheaper and has better timing.

Want to share my trip report from Langkawi to Koh Lipe.

Day 1, take Tiger Air from Singapore to Langkawi. Reach Langkawi Airport at 1.40pm. We pass through the immigration in less than 40 minute. I have book a oversea wifi router from Changi Recommend by forgotten to take it from the public area. After clearing immigration, I check with Celcom counter, was very lucky they do rent out router for only 10 rm a day plus a 40 rm sim card for 7 day use. A deposit of 300 rm is required, will return 240 rm after 4th day of use. We buy a taxi coupon for taxi to Meritus Pelangi Beach Resort 44.70 rm.
Reach resort, staff help to carry luggages, another staff lead us to sit at the lobby with cold drink and cold towel serve. Check in about 30 minute, staff lead us to take a golf cart straight to our room. Room is big and comfortable. I ask for taxi after I change to a comfortable wear, taxi arrive in 5 minute time. We are going to the cable car/ Sky cab. Reach there in about 30 mins, there was no many people at this time of the day. Reach the mid height, change another cable car to the higher height. The view is superb, we pay another ticket for the Sky Glide to the Sky Bridge. When we reach the ground level, the sky is getting dark, all the shops and entertainment is close. No choice, we plan to go back to our resort. We saw a German stall selling western food, it’s the only one left open. We order Fish and Chip, it’s good. We take a taxi back to the resort, rest and bath.
We take a taxi to Cenang Mall, the road is terrible, there is no construction going on the road but many stuffs are used to block one of the lane. And the worst is cars are parked at the only lane, this slow down the car to the minimum. Cenang Mall is a 3 stories building with only a few stores. There is a store selling cloth bag, very cheap and nice on the 2nd level. We walk toward our resort direction hoping to find anything interesting or nice restaurant. Can’t remember where we eat! After dinner, we continue our browsing and we reach our resort safety with tired legs.
Celcom wifi router is working good, highly recommended. 80 rm for 4 days use.

Day 2, we wake up early for taking ferry to Koh Lipe. We wake up at 7am, eat breakfast prepare by my wife, bread and Milo. We leave our room at 7.45am, was surprise to see the resort staff driving golf cart to pick us up, we did not inform the resort. Check out is instant and the resort allows us to leave 1 big luggage in the resort before we get back on the 15/2/17.
We reach Telaga Harbour at 8.30am, timing is just right, there are only less than 10 people with no one in the queue. 5 mins later, bus load of tourists is arriving creating a very long queue. Thanks TA expert for the great information.
Passing the immigration and boarding the ferry is very fast. When we reach Koh Lipe, ferry did not stop at the platform, instead boarding the long tail boat from the exit of the ferry. This is a bad idea for disability and the old. Luggage is send to the beach last after all passengers had alight the ferry.
The Thai immigration is very very slow, only 1 officer is working with 1 counter. Passport is pass back to individual by a funny “officer”, the process take about an hour but if you are lucky maybe 5min, you are through. It’s depend on which stack of passports the officer take first.
Walk to my resort Bundhaya Resort about 6 mins. There is no resort staff at the immigration to help carry luggage so best to bring light luggage. Check in is slow, staff can't speak much English and also don't understand much English. I don't know why they request for ferry ticket/ booking detail. Room is very small, shower water is small, safe box need to use by credit card and room is dark in the evening.
We walk to the walking street for our late lunch, reach the entrance at about 4 mins. There are many shops, restaurants and tour companies. I’m surprise to find so many nice clothing and they are not expensive. Order a som tam, pepper pork and fried fish in sweet and sour sauce, cost 1100 baht. The fish is the best follow by som tam and the pepper pork is worst. We eat dinner at another restaurant, 490 baht seafood buffet per person, fish include blue marlin, grouper, prawn and many more. The BBQ seafood taste very flat, you need to add sauce provide by the restaurant, other seafood that is already cook taste better. If you are not a big eater, not worth it. We book a snorkelling tour with one of the tour company, they use speed boat instead of long tail boat cost 1200 baht per person.

Day 3, we wake up to prepare for our snorkelling trip. Have breakfast in our resort, breakfast very simple with limited choice. We walk to walking street to the tour company. Many people in the tour is late, we waited 30 mins before boarding the speed boat.
The captain brings us to many different islands to snorkel. We are first timer and don’t swim well, we make our first try but result not good and there isn’t any fish. There are some islands with more fishes and some don’t. We bring white bread to attract the fish for good photo and video and the water is so clear, you can even see the colour of the fish and type of fish (if you are expert) on the speed boat.
We have lunch break at an island with many wooden chairs and tables. There is a stall selling drinks and some food. We food arrive in a plastic box, inside is a plastic bag of rice and a plastic bag of basil with pork (I think)/ fired egg. We have about 1 hour break and there are many monkeys in the island provide us with some entertainment.
We leave for more islands, nothing special. We reach Koh Lipe at about 3.30pm. Went back resort to bath and rest. I have food poisoning on that day, I think it’s the food (lunch) not handle well. I have fever, vomit and diarrhea. We went for dinner at 8pm but I still not feeling well after taking some pill from home. We end up eating instant noodle at the resort.
We are going back to Langkawi the next morning.

Day 4, we wake up to prepare for our return trip to Langkawi. Have breakfast in our resort, same choice as yesterday. I’m still not fully recover and only have a slice of bread and tea. We need to reach the immigration at 9am. Checking out is fast about 5 mins. I ask the staff whether he can help me carry my cabin size luggage to the immigration, he agree and will reach at 9.30am. We are early so clear the immigration is very fast but my luggage is still not yet arrive. Waited anxiety and looking around for my luggage still no sight of it. The staff find us and hand us my luggage at 10am, by then ferry already arrive and have started to send passenger to the beach.
After all luggage had been send to the beach, we start queue up to board the long tail boat to the ferry. We reach Langkawi late at 1.30pm. We miss our mangrove tour book from Naam, they call me and we postpone to morning tour the next day without any charges. There is again bad arrangement for passenger alight the ferry and wait for their luggage at the platform before proceeding to the immigration clearing. We board the ferry very early but our luggage is stack on the bottom, that’s make us wait and we are almost last to clear the immigration.
Taxi are waiting outside, just tell them your hotel name and they will arrange a bus taxi to send you to your hotel with other people in that area. There are lots of monkeys on the roadside with a big sign board.
Reach Meritus Pelangi Beach Resort, check in as usual, wait at the lobby. This time the waiting is vey long, about an hour. Same golf cart send us to our room, this time they give us 2nd floor, nothing special. We have our late lunch at the lobby restaurant, food not that good and pricy. We went back our room to rest, wake up at 7pm. I decide to see doctor as I’m still not feeling well, the resort clinic close at 5pm, we went to Cenang Clinic on the left side of the resort, about 10 mins walk. Total fee is 161 rm.
I ask the nurse to help call taxi to Pantai Cenang for dinner, request to stop at a Chinese restaurant. I order fried rice for my wife and noodle soup for me. Taste good and not expensive, can’t remember the cost of the meal. Walk around Pantai Cenang toward our resort.
Today is boring because I’m not feeling well and taking ferry from Koh Lipe take up half a day.

Day 5, today we are heading to mangrove tour by Naam, have to meet at 8.30am. We wake up at 7.30am to prepare and eat breakfast prepare by my wife. I didn’t book the room with breakfast in this resort as the price is very high. We pack our luggage can check out at 8.15am, the checkout is instant, what a great service.
A van have arrive to pick us up to Tanjung Rhu beach for the preparing to board the Sea Vulture a type of speed boat at 8.45am. When ready, life jacket is given out, material is very good, a lot better than the one we use on our last tour in Koh Lipe. Put on life jacket and ready to board Sea Vulture, there are total of 8 person. Captain assistance assigns 4 person in the front and 4 person at the back to balance. My wife have sea sick so we sit at the back with 2 person from Arab.
The boat start, first stop at the fish farm, 2nd stop bat cave. You can see lots of small bats in the cave, torchlight is given to us free while others have to pay 2 rm each. There are some monkey when you exit the cave, be careful as this type of monkey is very aggressive. 3rd stop is eagle watching, Naam don’t feed the eagle which is good but we can only see the eagle from far. Other tour feed the eagle to attract them. 4th stop, crocodile cave, nothing special, the boat will go through the cave but very slowly. 5th stop, see eagle again. 6th stop, see rock like king kong. Last stop, rest at Tanjung Rhu beach, you can swim in the sea. We alight at about 2pm, there is no lunch provided. The same van send us back to the resort.
We have some late lunch at the resort before going to airport. I return the wifi router to Celcom counter and the staff return back my deposit 260 rm. Checking in Air Asia is not very fast, staffs chat more than work. Flight land at Penang at 6pm. Clearing immigration is so so, I’m looking for Celcom counter to rent another wifi router. Celcom staff doesn’t bother to ask, straight away say don’t have and point to Maxis but they don’t have. Maxis staff point to a booth next door, Travel Recommends. Travel Recommends is a company of Singapore Changi Recommends, the staff by the name of Daven Tan is very helpful, he said they don’t rent out to tourist, it’s for local to rent and use in other countries. But lucky, there is a spare router for replacement, he check my booking number with Singapore CR and it’s done. I don’t need to pay him any money, just pay to Singapore CR will do, that’s great!
We pay at the taxi counter for taxi to Georgetown, Sunway hotel, cost 44.70 rm. Reach hotel, check in is fast and the room is very big with a super king size bed. We walk to the right toward times square for dinner, end up at MMall Chinese restaurant, eating Penang Prawn Noddle and fishball noodle. Taste below average but the honeydew juice is the best, forgotten the meal cost. Shop around before heading back hotel as we have day trip tomorrow to many farms, Penang Hill and kek lok si temple.

If you compare Koh Lipe and Phuket, Koh Lipe is still cheaper and less crowded.

It's just a small island, so basically it's very safe. Just do your precaution when you are there, and when doing water sports or boat trip.
Your children can do snorkelling at the beach as the water is very clear.

There are 3 beaches in that island, I stay on 1 beach most of the time. Did not see many children, mostly couple. But do not worry, if your kids like beach then it's a haven for them. :D
