Yes, there is a small custom at langkawi and a even smaller custom on koh lipe.
Best to book ferry online, reach there pass the eticket to the counter, write your detail in the white paper, (this part can't rmb, I think show it to the counter) and wait for the custom to open door. ( while waiting can go to the road to see monkeys)
Thailand side, when you land on koh lipe, you have to wait for a officer to call your name, this waiting is going to take about an hour. (collect luggage when it arrive the beach). After the officer hand you your passport, you need to queue for stamping, pay park fee at the side (2-3 ranger standing at a shelther), then proceed to your hotel.

From Hatyai, I took a motorsai to Talat Kaset bus terminal. Ticket to Pak Bara is at counter 9. It was my first time getting to a destination faster than what it is supposed to be via a mini bus. The driver basically was speeding the whole time.

Is the bus terminal near hatyai central festival mall?
Regarding the minibus, not for the faint hearted,it run more than 120km/h even it rain.
By the way you took plane or bus frm sg?
For those going by bus, heard frm operator need to drop at Sadao/danok change, then go hatyai.no more straight bus to hatyai.

Actually I’m not sure where the bus terminal is. I took overnight bus from sg to hatyai straight, 15hrs because of the long queue at Thai immigration. When I reached hatyai, my connecting bus has left. So I just took a motorsai and rush to this bus terminal which leaves for park bara boat terminal.

When did they implement this no straight bus to hatyai? I only got dropped at a dfs shop at sadao, then continue on to hatyai. Very lame.

I am willing to do that if it is still possible..makes the process faster and won't have to wait for some humsup uncles who think they are smart to switch queue lane multiple times.:vijayadmin:

U can buy Langkawi round trip $80 !!! Cheaper than ur hatyai bus then change here change there

Agree, going by langkawi then take ferry to Koh Lipe is easier and less troublesome. But the ferry to Koh Lipe only operate on peak season, off peak season still have to go by hatyai route.
