My contribution to the KSL thread:
I decided on Monday 14 Dec 15 to try out the bus route from Queens St to KSL. I have been driving for many years into Msia and this time, I'd thought I will be a passenger for once.
1045hrs : Reached Queen Street, queued at Causeway Link bus line. The other lines were 170 (not sure where) and the Spore Johore Express. Apparently as what I read, the Causeway Link queue moves faster as buses come quite frequently. I had to wait for 2 CL buses to be filled up before I could get up, that's how long the queue is. During this time, there was no sign of the Johore Express or 170 picking up passengers. Cost - paid by EZlink S$3.30.
1125hrs: Boarded the bus and headed for Spore Immigration. Journey was smooth and reached around 1155 hrs. This is where the confusion began. Passport check in was fast using the computer system but when I got down to the platform to board the Causeway Link bus, there were a lot of people but not much signages as to where to queue for your bus. I had to go to the front of the queue and work backwards. For those taking the Causway Link bus, as soon as you come down the escalator, the Causeway Link bus boarding area is right behind you. That day, the queue stretches from the boarding area past the escalator and there were a lot of people adding to the confusion. So my queue was, if you turn around after coming down the escalator, on the extreme right. The line moves fast but there were people caught in the wrong queue so instead of re-queueing for their buses, they pay and board the Causeway Link Buses to Johor side.
1230 hrs After all the mad rush , reached JB immigration. Again got to queue to chop the passport. Took another 20 min. Queue at the last counter moved faster as there were two officials on duty then. As I exited the complex, I headed for Sentral to look for the Causeway Link bus S1. It goes right into KSL. Head for City Square and as you walk on the link bridge towards City Square, you can see the buses below. It is pretty noisy as the bus touts are shouting for passengers to fill up their buses. Sometimes they have a shouting match or honking contest.
1250 hrs: Took CL bus S1 RM$1.50, waited for a few more passengers and headed for KSL. Dropped right infront of the mall.
Return :
Go down to the basement, head towards KFC and the exit. The Soon Soon Heng Bak Kut Teh stall will be opposite you. Wait for the S1 and the bus will bring you back to JB Sentral. You can take this bus to Holiday Plaza too.
I have to depart from the CIQ and get my passport stamped before I can buy my bus tickets to return to Spore.
Again as you exit the Johore customs, and come to the bus area, the SBS buses are on the same side as the exit door.
For CL buses, you need to cross via the zebra crossing to the opposite side. I bought my ticket RM$3.40 for Queen Street. Of cos, any CL bus will bring you to Spore immigration and after Spore immigration, go to the correct queue to board the CL bus for Queen St.
Conclusion :
I think driving-in is a lot less tiring, though you may have to sit in the jam waiting to be cleared. In bus you can get to sleep and not bother about the jam. It is the queueing up and rushing for the buses that wears one out.
