All of you heading to KL beware of eating at Jalan Alor. This place used to be a cheap area for good local food like stingray, lala, chicken wing and so on (similar to our newton circus). When I first visited this place in early 2000s, I can see many locals eating here, food were cheap and reasonable.

Fast forward to 2013. Knn, this entire stretch has become a slaughter joint. Food not nice, and the prices same as Singapore!!! Totally not worth it. Many tourists here also, gone are the locals. They also employ many foreign workers like Myanmar ppl to cook and serve. Totally not worth it.

Avoid!!!

agreed!!! any other areas to recommend for eating out at night? would chinatown be good?

Chinatown is fine. I miss the Lou Si Farn outside the Swiss Inn. Late nights only.

Chinatown a lot of good food lar. Go for the Beef Noodle in the morning. Then Lau Shu Fen as mention at night till late or the KL Hokkien Mee by Kim Lian Kee. Yong Tau Foo at the market (closed on Monday). Porridge at Hon Kee. Then Wantan Mee next to Hon Kee. A lot of things to eat if you take your time to walk around. Really a lot of good food.

You can wall from Chinatown to Bukit Bintang.

Sent from Sent from Mars using GAGT

possible. I did that before. However, I did in very fast pace due to lack of time then. In fact rather straight forward. If you know bit of short cut even better. However, avoid doing short cut at night. Straight forward direction, walk from BB towards TS direction. Why not take the MRT along BB. Its only 3 stops away. Alight at Maharajaleha station which is directly outside the little India area sector of Chinatown. From this station you walk across the street or use the overhead bridge.

If you walk, not sure, just follow the BB MRT line, you will past TS, That what I did without a map several years ago. of course, if you can find your short cut around, would be better.

If you have a map with you, walk along Jalan Bukit Bintang to the end and come to a T junction, turn right into Jalan pudu and walk all the way, you see Swiss Garden hotel, hospital on the opposite side, further down.... you will see the place. Won't miss it.

I tried both ways to Chinatown

If you start at the junction with Lot 10 and BB Plaza, look out for the sign that says Royal Bintang. Head towards this hotel, passing by the famous The Ship restaurant, Sungei Wang Plaza, the Federal Hotel and finally you will come to a T-junction. Take the right turn and soon you will see the Swiss Garden. Continue in this direction and soon enough you will come to the Ancasa and Chinatown. Between the Swiss Garden and the Ancasa, there is a huge abandoned construction site.

National Day getaway

Hi all,

Will be going to KL for a short getaway during the national day weekend, from 7th - 9th August. Taking coach there, departing Textile Centre at 2330 hours. Staying at Hilton KL, and my coach will be from Textile Centre to 5 Elements Hotel (Chinatown).

Qns:

1, is there anything to do when my coach reach KL in the wee hours of the morning? I know for certain that we will not be able to get early check in for the hotel. Is there like cafes, dim sum shops around the area that is open?

2, is sunway lagoon worth going now? the last time I've been there was in 2007, and from what I can see on the website, it seemed to have undergone a renovation.

3, any recommended cafes to go cafe-hopping when I'm in KL?

Thanks all!

The polis are on top of the situation. It is a very isolated incident that took place in a mall that tourists hardly visit. It is not a city-wide riot. I am going there this weekend.

lowyat mall is just like sim lim square, selling many computer product and handphone.. if you are in KL, if you are thinking of buying computer product, you will think of low yat mall. around low yat mall there are other shopping centre like Lot 10, pavillion, , Some tourist will still go there for shopping
