Lasik eye Surgery

Anyone that did lasik surgery have side effects like dry eyes (common) or distorted images? Do all these side effects go away after sometime? or it takes care and follow up with the doctor for all these side effects to end?

I am thinking about going for Lasik too, but the side effects are really holding me back alot. Do share your experience on doing Lasik.

Most people will have dry eyes in the early period after surgery. This is usually not too bad (eyedrops enough to make the eye feel better) and in 90% of cases are pretty much back to normal in one month. Distortions are very uncommon. What you would notice is an overall haziness/smokiness on the day of surgery straight after the LASIK, and then by the next day most of this is gone. Usually the vision by the next day is good enough to get around, look at the computer, watch TV, read etc. But there will be continued improvement especially in the first week, and then by the first month the vision is pretty good and stable. The doctor will tell you how to take care, but most important things are to use the eyedrops as prescribed, and don't rub the eyes or splash water in the eyes. And you'll be fine. If you ever come across epiLASIK-this is a different surgery, recovery is much slower and is actually the same as PRK/LASEK.

I find it a little strange that LASEK sometimes costs more than LASIK. In LASEK, there is no need for a femtosecond laser to make the flap and no need for consumables like the femtosecond laser docking cone, and yet it sometimes costs more. Wonder why?

Hey.. I don't mind. If it can help you make a decision, why not?

Immediately after the procedure, the vision is good enough to walk around the place. The vision is cloudy, like a PSI of 200. On day 2, the cloudy vision is more or less gone.

Before the op, i've never suffered from glares, halos or stars, so i didn't expect any.

1 week on, glares happen when i walk out of the building or for lunch. I just wear my shades to make it more comfortable.

I realize that I take some time to focus onto things. Looking from my phone to something on my monitor, it is a few moments before the text become clear.

Driving is ok, but on day 3 of the op, while driving thru the tunnel at the CTE, i had to put on my shades cos of the glare from the tunnel lights and car headlights. Driving at night is tougher. Car headlights, when viewed thru the rearview mirror appear to be high beams. It was that bright. Takes nearly 20-30 mins to adjust to the lighting.

I've also realized that I'm quite tired at the end of the day. Perhaps its me trying to get used to the new vision.

Doc initially said 2 days MC. I asked for and got 5 days. Thus far, every visit has been covered by MC.

I also want to go for the operation.
I'm very scared.
Pain or not ?

Its not painful. Its more of a surreal experience as to the entire LASIK process.

I'm a newbie here! and thanks to this thread i found a lot of info about lasik.

i went to SLC for their Lasik talk two weeks ago and went for the $1 assesment (since there is nothing lose, only half day of my life...)

went through around 6 machines (attneded by very nice lady) and some watched 2 videos about lasik. i spend about 2.5 hours there and finally doctor review the test result. He said i'm a good candidate, have good cornea thickness (540) and i'm suitable for wavefront lasik and relex smile. I didnt do any test for dry eye, so i requested for one. The lady put a strip at lower eyelid of each eye and apparently doctor said i have dry eyes (if i'm not mistaken around 5 out of 25mm) and if i do any surgery it might cause more dry eyes... (doctor cant guarantee the outcome)

I was thinking to attend SNEC's forum and have another assesment... Better to ask for second opinion...?

Has anybody has this experience before? Care to share?

As they say in engineering, measure twice cut once. For your eyes, I guess u would wanna measure a few times before u go for the procedure.

My vision comes and goes.. Certain days I experience blur vision. I'll experience blurred vision the whole day. If I try to focus really hard, I'll get headaches. I get pretty tired at the end of the day too.

Some days I get good vision. Feels good and don't really hve to stress my eyes to make out details.

Doc says I still hve a few dry spots on my corneas and I've been spamming eyedrops daily.

dude, don't really too much on eyedrops. If your eyes are not releasing sufficient "tears" to clean your eyes, you should consult your surgeon or a GP. And considering the duration of your earlier post, your post-surgery consultations with the doctor should be done and almost 2 months ago, your eyesight should be 90% there, except the bits of night blindness, avoiding direct sunlight and rubbing of eyes.

3 years after my lasik.... i went back for an evaluation test.

Doctor say both eyes 1-2 lines above 6/6 vision. That's abt 5% of people that can achieve after Lasik.

Im getting mine done in nov at shinagwa not really scared just freaking exciting abt having gd eyesight I cant remember how it was.

Didnt go to any talks or evaluation just went in shinagawa and booked the dates like getting a hair cut.

I'm about 100-125 each eye and I did it too.

as long as you want to see even better with spec, just go for it!

Yes, around 5-10% discount, cannot remember which.

lasik clinic. gf went there and i went there too.

about $3k? very nervous before op coz scare of a lot of things.

then went thru and everything is good. except at night, though still clear, but can see much better with lights.

may be sensitive to bright lights at night, thus, not so clear for lighted up words.
