Lasik eye Surgery

Wanted to share my experience of the Transprk done at Clearvision

I am 42 this year and my degrees are 625 left eye and 550 right eye with minimal astig. As I am passed 40 my presbyopia(lao hua) is starting too and think I have around 50deg of lao hua on each eye.

Have been procrastinating on doing eye correction for the longest time in part cos I am really chicken **** and the thought of clamping with suction on eyeball and cutting a flap and closing with side effects scare me. Chanced upon transprk and read about how non invasive the procedure is and at passed 40 given my ROi is considerably low too I still decided to go ahead to tick this off my bucket list.

Did a pre check at the end of Apr 2022 and was told by Dr Tony that he will correct both my eyes by 550 deg (given thats the deg I am wearing for contacts) and leave a bit of a monovision (under correct left eye by 75 to 100) to help with lao hua. As the correction is 550 per eye there isn't a need to do cornea cross linkage and the thickness of my cornea stands at 515mm. Some small scarring on my right cornea but it shouldn't affect the procedure.

Scheduled for the procedure on 31st May and arrived at the clinic at 9am. There were around 4 other pax awaiting to do the same thing (or i think so) and I was the 3rd person in queue. Did a few more eye checks and the nurse there dripped 4 different eye drops into the eye to test for any possible allergic reaction as these eye drops will be essential post procedure.

Finally waited for my turn to be called in and yes was scared **** and also totally anxious. Never like anything to have to do with eyes so was feeling rather apprehensive. Told to lie down flat on the bed where u wriggle and get into position right under the transprk machine with the greenlight blinking. Was then told to relax and just look up. Did the right eye first and Dr Ho explained every step he was doing when first he will drip more numbing eye drops (basically spam a lot into the eye) and there after he will take some clip to keep the eye lid open. Totally no pain at this stage and just some adjustment of the eye lid to accommodate the clip. Thereafter he said we are starting now and look into the green dot. Dr ho will hold your head in position and the green dot will change from a small dot to a big dot to a disperse light source then all these while dr Ho will be counting down saying 15s more, 10s more, 5 s more and that's it. Think the laser took like 30s ? Very fats procedure, no pain no discomfort but u do smell something like plastic burning while it's going on. There after the light stop and doc ho will spamm more antiseptic eye drop in to wash the eye and then put on the bandage contacts in before he repeat the entire process on the left eye. Think whole lying down on bed to get both eyes fixed takes less then 5mins and its relatively fast.

Post the procedure, you be asked to sit up and then a photo will be taken with Dr Ho. U can see but everything looks blurry to me, maybe feel like 300 deg kind of short sighted? Then proceeded out of the procedure room where I booked a grab myself which I realise then my near vision is gone. Can't really see the fonts on the phone clearly and but struggling to make it up . Put on the sunglass and walked out of the clinic and also realise had a bit of difficulty making out the carplate number.

Post procedure on the day itself, the eyes felt very "suan" and a bit of pressure on the eyeball and had to keep dripping eye drop on a 1hr schedule with 4 diff eye drops on a rotational basis. Slept a lot after I got home at 12pm and everything looks blurry. That same night woke up at 3am and felt extremely suan in the eye and had to open it to make sure I wasn't going blind and drip more lubricating eye drop. Second day it was better, not so much suan ness but still cldnt see near things. Had to adjust my hp fonts to the second largest and was also struggling to reply to messages. TV looks to be blurry too so continued to sleep alot. On day 3 went back to the clinic for Post op check and told Dr Phil whom was Dr Ho partner and doing the post checks that my near vision still blurry, and that come day 8 I need to go back to work and my work requires me to look at lots of screens and I was worried I can't see.Dr Phil is pretty patient, explained that near vision should get better but if it doesn't, he will suggest getting a lao hua specs 100 deg for me to wear while working. Strangely that evening, my near vision suddenly got better and I can read my ph and fonts set back to where it was previously (3rd smallest). Day 4 didn't feel much changes no discomfort while day 5 I had to go back to the clinic for the check again. Each post op check is probably at max 5 min with Dr Phil where he will look into your eye and let you know how you are healing. For me he mentioned my healing is on track and next check is on day 8 where I will be removing my bandage contact (tomorrow) which he said the far vision should slowly get better.

Today is day 7 and far vision feels slighy better as compared to day 4 and 5 and I no longer see double image for far things, but maybe still blurry and feels like I am 100 deg to 150 deg short sighted. I began to drive today and it feels quite OK. So far no other discomfort so will update maybe in the next couple of days after contact removal.

If you have any qn do let me know I will try best to answer. Guess the difference between this and lasik is this really takes a long time to recover and progress very slow such that sometimes u may not feel u are getting better, but fingers crossed I do get my clear vision back

Anyone got allergic reaction to eye drops (antibiotics)? Is it ok to exclude it during transPRK recovery?

They will test on you on surgery day, prior to the procedure so don’t have to worry.

Do let the clinic know if you have any allergies. The staff at Clear Vision will also conduct the allergy test of all eyedrops on you on the day of surgery. There are different types of eye drops to be instilled after the surgery. Most of the eye drops only need to be instilled until the bandage lens are removed while there is a steroid eye drop that you would probably need to use for a month plus to ensure full recovery of the corneas. This is on top of the lubricating eyedrops which are for preventing dry eyes.

I got the bad habit of rubbing my eyes.

I had it too but a positive take away after doing is that i reduced rubbing my eyes by alot haha. Rubbing of eyes is really bad when i did my research.

I think antibiotics is impt for recovery least getting bacteria infection. But Best is to ask the clinic for advice

How has your recovery been? Its day 12 for me and far vision more or less all good. But been a struggle going back to work. Near vision still blurry and need to enlarge fonts. Also have got to spend a lot of time in front of the monitor so not sure if that's going to slow down my recovery.

Hi, just want to share my experience and hopefully get some advice from some of you...

Went for LASIK assessment at EEC but was told that my cornea is on the thinner side and that my astig is higher than my eye readings. Astig is in the 400 range. No issue with my other readings. The doctor said any laser procedures should be avoided because of my cornea and high astig (i actually thought my astig was within the acceptable range). Was also informed that i showed signs of keratoconus. Was asked to do cross linking first since it is covered by medisave (this I don't mind doing)

1. Now I'm not sure if i want to go ahead with ICL because of the cost (was quoted about 8k at EEC) which is more than twice the amount of LASIK and the risks compared to LASIK Anyone here has been in a similar situation as me? would really love to hear what you did, what are your thoughts and how you are coping... Is ICL even permanent as the likelihood of having the lenses removed is higher when you're older right? I am 30 now.

2. Also, the doctor I was assigned doesn't seem to be popular in this forum. I see Dr Lynn and Dr Julian Theng's names for ICL mostly. Do you think it is possible for me to change doctor to Dr Lynn since she is more experienced? Anyone has a referral quote for this please?

3. Should I go for a second opinion at another clinic? I know Dr Natasha Lim's clinic has a better pricing for LASIK assessment.

Can't believe something that trying to get rid of specs could be such a long process.

LHS: 400 , a:125, RHS: 650: a: 75
Cornea Thickness: 580 both side
Suitable for lasik,
Advise not to go for Lasek as closed to 800 (RHS with 650+75).
Choose Lasik because recorrection cannot be done with LASIK and have to be perform using LASEK
Heard that 20% of the candidate are rejected. Consider myself lucky and thank my parent for it.

1) I am thinking of Clearvision transprk after some good review online.
Can see my stats if I am suitable for Clearvision transprk due to the good long term outcome.
Alternatively I am thinking of Shinagawa assessment.

Day 28 for me, near vision is good but far still bit blur. 3rd appointment last week shows good recovery though still have about -100 to recover for far vision, which is expected to take few weeks more to improve. I stared at screen whole day for work too and sometimes vision gets a bit blur but they say it’s normal to fluctuate at times in recovery. Driving in low light can be challenging though as you can see cars at distance, but without details - too used to driving in very clear vision.

Hi folks,

Thanks to help from someone from the community here... I managed to get a referral for Dr Lim Wee Kiak and had my procedure done a couple of days ago. But as someone here pointed out, the discount is just $200. Not the 10-15% I was expecting.

In any case, just want to share that this is Day 3 of my epi-Lasik procedure... I have not encountered any complications so far, no pain whatsoever. Its just that I still seem to be about 100-200deg short in terms of short-sightedness... I was told it will gradually become sharper - certainly hope so, coz otherwise, I might still need a low powered pair of glasses.

Something for those with Lao Hua to take note.... whilst they deliberately slightly under corrected one eye to make it better, I still could not see things which are near. Previously, I was still able to read the words after I lift my glasses... now I do not have that option anymore. Whilst I am still waiting for the vision to stabilize,.. given the nature of my work... I am quite certain I would eventually need to get a pair of reading glasses.
