For me they gave me additional vouchers to recommend more people to do lasik at Shinagawa.

ASA Advanced surface abalation

Hi

I went for consultation at snec. Doctor advised me i should try to for ASA which she said is similar to epi lasik. Her recommendation was based on something she said about my eyes having some abnormalities it cost $3600 for both eyes not inclusive of gst. Not including other fees. Anyone have any advice ? Has anyone gone for ASA.

I went for lasik talk at SNEC. Didnt find it effective. Then went to LSC Paragon session. Dr Marc Tay explained about various lasik surgery available. At the end of the talk they were giving 1sgd voucher for pre-assessment.
On Sat, 24th May'14 I went for pre-assessment which took around 2.5 hrs. I arrived at 11am & was done by 1.30pm.
A lady staff brought me to a dark room with many equipment, I think there were at least 5 or 6. I went through one machine after another. But the first one is fairly uncomfortable, a ticklish feel that came with wind blown to my eyes. The rest were similar to those we saw at optical shops, mostly to see blurry to higher resolution images. Five tests.

More tests at the other room. I had to identify the letters of alphabet on the screen. After that I sat at one of the computers to see 2 videos. One is an education of eye, explaining reason of myopia, far-sightedness and technical stuff procedure of Lasik surgery. The other video is procedure of the Lasik the dos and don’ts, precautions, etc.
A female staff led me to Dr Marc Tay, a charming middle-age guy with a Caucasian look. He seemed to be able to read people. Probably the particulars about my age, occupation, stress level at work and his years of experience were sufficient to form an impression. He told me pros and cons of Lasik (basically he repeated the same thing he told during forum), what kind of result to expect. All things not mentioned by anyone earlier and video. He said I could consider mono-vision, meaning my left eye to be corrected to be able to see objects in close range such as reading. Right eye to see far. When seeing things with both eyes, the 2 eyes compensate each other, image will be clear.
He then said I can go back home & decide & can write to him if I have more questions. I told him I want to have surgery now.
I was then asked to pay money I got discount of 250sgd. So in total it costed me 2884 sgd. for VISX Interlase Bladeless Standard lasik costing with original cost of 3091.
3:00pm to 4:15pm
Waiting outside the operating theatre. I put on operation gown and footwear. Nurse put eye drop in my eye. There were around 3 more patients. Each took about 15 minutes. One of them, I heard, did on one eye only. Mine was 2 eyes. We couldn’t see one another. All separated by curtain.
Since my eye was dialated they put eye drops to bring it to normal so I have for long to be normal. Later before going into operation theatre she numbed my eyes by putting eye drops again.

4:20pm
My turn. I walked in the operating theatre. Dr Marc Tay was there. He put a ring around the eye he was going to operate on. The ring prevents eye from closing. Then looking at some astronomy-like image in the machine. He used something to scratch my eye, there’s no pain, just some watery thing, then I saw image from blur to clear. I guess it’s cornea. Then repeated the similar procedure with left eye. After that, I could walk out of the operating theatre. Nurse applied eye drop, put the shields to protect my eyes.

I came alone. It’s a problem to get a cab at 5pm. I waited for nurse. She took me to Paragon 2nd floor to flag a taxi. Super easy. Manageable. At this time, my eyes were tearing. For no apparent reason, I felt very uncomfortable. Eyes were sensitive to glare. As it was evening, the lighting in living room made me unable to open my eyes. Biting sensation.
At home I took sleeping pills ate my dinner & went to sleep.

Next day on Sunday: No more pain and discomfort. My eyes can see very well. I was happy.
I didn’t wash hair and face, following instruction. I used a wet towel to wipe my face. Of course no running.
Consultation with Dr Marc Tay. I asked a few questions. I asked him why I have blood shot in my eye didnt received any convincing reply.

After 2 weeks I went for 2nd consultation which was done by ophthalmologist. She said my cut has healed however I have to take precautions like not getting swimming pool or sea water in eyes or go for facial etc.

Next appointment with dr Marc Tay is in 3 months later that is in Sept.14

So far my experience is : It takes time for me to adjust from seeing far to reading newspaper. I have headaches sometimes. Halos & glare are common. I have to wear sunglasses when I go out otherwise strain in eyes. I can't constantly read newspaper and have to take a break in between to see far objects otherwise I feel dizzy.
I have been told it will take 3 months to get the eyes stabilised.
Right eye power is 6/6 however left eye power is 6/7

I have received lots of information from this forum so I thought of giving it back to others by writing my experiences.

Basically what i understand because of lasik machine provided by different companies the cost of surgery varies. Its the same thing like purchasing cost of mobile phones like iphone, samsung etc.

Newer LASIK are all very good and safe.
It will also help more patients with different conditions.

Back then I had LASIK Wavefront. It's like Version 2.
Also back then, it is not uncommon for doctor to reject you if you are not suitable. Not like today.

Today there are many new Laser technology and Flap cutting style, there is sure one available for anyone.

Yes. I would say that LASIK has made a lot of advancements in the last few years (i guess it's not surprising given the amount of money flowing in this area).

So while minor side effects can be still common, serious worries (like going blind) are much less common.

Shinagawa LASIK

Hello! I'm considering having my LASIK done at Shinagawa. Anyone done it there before mind sharing your experience with Dr. Jovina See or Dr. Lee? How long has it been since the surgery and how is your eyesight now?

I'm on the fence as to which doctor to go for, though I heard both are good

Did with Dr Lee 3 years ago. Prices have gone up ever since. I loved the service. the doctor and service there made me feel at ease. But, at the operating theatre, it was pretty scary because of the cold. Thanks to the anesthetic, I was able to go through the surgery quick and painless. Took me a day to recover.

yea Dr Lee is good, resident doctor surgeon. I didn't feel cold, maybe you could notify the doctor or nurse when they checked on you and how are you feeling etc.

haha the cold I was referring to was the feel of the theater. I would recommend that place anytime over the other orchard ones.

oh, that cannot be helped and may vary from person to person. Hospital ops theater also are mostly like that as well, not that I have been warded into one many times before.

Just did lasik in korea. I did it for about $1600. farely cheap compared to singapore. Took about 1 day to recover.

While it may be cheap to do in other countries, for most of us, it will be the safest to do in our country as the entire procedure can be smoothly communicated and follow-ups can be done easily with the same clinic. Just my 2 cents.

What was your myopia degree? Are there any side effects as other people claimed?

yea do locally will be the safer option. lasik is going at half price in Malaysia and also the recovery time, you will need to recover at the country before travelling back. Flying slows down/prevents recovery due to pressure on the lids. Of course language barrier.

My myopia degree was 350 on both sides. I'm assuming the side effects are, according to webmd:

Glare
Seeing halos around images
Difficulty driving at night
Fluctuating vision
Dry eyes

Glare existed before and after the operation so it's not included in my evaluation.
I don't see halos, am totally okay with driving at night (drove overseas for long hours, no problem)
No fluctuating vision, or did not notice it
Dry eyes - it's not extremely dry per se, just that throughout the day, with excessive computer use, your eyes get tired. But constant water intake (which should be part of your diet) settled the problem for me. Otherwise, the doctor recommends using eyedrops to lubricate them.

how old were you when you did your lasik? I heard from my colleague that once my myopia stabilize I should go ahead and do it. The duration that I can benefit will be longer.

A friend of mine had it and totally cured from glare and halos.

Amaris vs Allegretto

Hi! From what I know, the main diff is the speed of excimer laser and eye tracking speed (1050hz + 6-dimensions). These are impt specs that differentiate the probability of getting regression and under/over correction. And I believe, from what I research from forums, the machine is impt , since skill of surgeon is not much being tested here.

For me I would sure go for the better machine, since my degrees are high, with higher risk of regression n under/over correction. Up to u to weigh the risk actually

Where the 6D tracking of the Amaris is especially important is when you have significant astigmatism (eg more than 100 degrees). If your eye is eg slanted by 10 degrees because your head is crooked under the laser, and the laser did not detect it and compensate, then you lose 30% of astigmatic correction. If by 30 degrees, then there is no astigmatic correction at all. The 6D tracking makes sure any misalignment is detected and compensated for, so astigmatic corrections are much more accurate. There are 3 Amaris machines in Singapore, at Shinagawa, Jerry Tan's clinic, and Eagle Eye at Novena. Jerry Tan's is faster than the other 2, since it is the 1050RS model compared to the 750S model for the other 2.

Hi. I just did my assessment yesterday at SNEC. Advise you to go earlier than your appointment time. Long waiting time due to other patients..

I did mine with Dr Allan Foong. He wasn't confident due to me having a dot on my right cornea. Told me to speak to Dr Jed for a 2nd opinion.. After talking with Dr Jed, I've decided to do LASIK. Gonna have the procedure next Friday on the 17th.
