In the end, I chose PA1.
And I felt a tinge of regret after readin this reply of yours. hahahs.
After readin "mostly conduct in Japanese"? I was like oh god, hope I wont regret my choice.

I really took alot of time makin a decision today at the counter, the staffs told me PA1 will be mostly on conversation, so I thought hmmm, it will be a good chance for me to train up?

The other reason that made me chose PA 1 was due to the school fees, 200plus for 2 months at int level, whereas PA1 is just another $10 more and the course lasts for 4 months. I thought it will be a better offer for a poor student like me, where everything is paid on my own. =(

I didn't thought of takin any classes at the start, wanna study JLPT 2 on my own like how I did on 3. Which I think I can actually do it since everything is written based. I have quite a number of friends who studied on their own.
And I also thought to myself that under a more stressful class, I will be more motivated and hardworkin to learn.

I really hope I didnt make the wrong choice man. hahas.
PA levels are 1.5hours per lesson, whereas all Ele and Int levels are 3hours each, total time spent for both are the same at 24hours per course, yes time wise you get more bang for your money, per course since you only have to pay 4 months later, cost of lesson is still the same however.

But the [ unfactored risks ] in the cons section of Option2 [ see my earlier post ] may occur, and you need to have a plan if that really happens.

You may also have to deal with the fact that there may be some [ maybe large ] gaps in oral performance between you vs your classmates who finish classes in bunka, which could either motivate or demoralize your will.

One part you need to take note, while it is guaranteed that you will get promoted if had you started at a lower level [ like Int2 or Int3 ], since you already more or less can tackle the work given out with ease by virture of your jlpt knowledge [ excluding speaking and listening portion ], the same cannot be said for PA1. To get promoted to PA2, you must be able to interact with the sensei at a certain level required [ using stuff we learnt from Ele1 to Int4 ], and there is a review test once every 2 months, those who are more proficient will go to PA2, the rest will be at PA1 until the next review [ while new PA1 students like you and me take over the places of those who left ]. We could very well be stuck at PA1 for months, if our socks are not pulled high enough, until either we improve, we give up, or we join another school out of frustration.

Thing is, have you thought about the financial issues if something like this were to occur ?

For me, I have no intention of spending more than 6months in each PA level [ prepared to spend maximum total 18months for PA1, PA2 and PA3 ], so I rather fry my brain to make it work, than to be lazy [ which I always do ], keep burning money, and watch others get promoted to *greener pastures*.

Remember that your long term learning could be deeply affected if something does not work out.

I wish you all the best for your PA1 endeavour, maybe we would even land up in the same class...

P.S. Since you are on waiting list, ask the staff if you can transfer your payment to a lower level [ they will tell you it's no possible, but try anyway, & tell them you are willing to forgo the extra $10 if that helps ], since the attendance has not been confirmed as class has not started for newcomers like us.

Hmm... I think that the test paper nowadays is a little tougher than I last took them 8 years ago. A couple of tricky questions tossed in to tickle one's mind. Still, do take heart in the fact that mistakes are made so that we may learn from them our own deficits in knowledge. That's what tests are for, right? ^^

Hee... I'll definitely register for JLPT 4 this year. Need to remember to set aside time to go down on a weekday.

I dun think I'll be attending the JCS JLPT 4 prep class though. Doubt I'll have time to spare with exam prep and all. How about you? Are you going to register for the JLPT 3 prep class?

In your school, do you pay the same fees as new student if you were repeating a level?

Recently, I failed my review exam and I am required to repeat the same level.
I repeat by joining the next on-going class and not required to pay fees.

This led me to think that this school is serious about teaching Japanese and not so much on making money.

I also felt that smaller school needs to do much more extras so that they do not lose students.

Thanks for the reply!

So how did it go when you first attended your PA1 lessons?
Did you stuck there for long?
Cos the staffs told me that normally the students take about 6 months to get promoted to the next level.

How about if I take int 4 instead?
