HI~! It's been awhile since I posted anything. Been a lurker all these while because I'm too busy to say anything..

BUT I just want to say that I've just gotten a letter from the Japanese Cultural Society! It says that my JLPT4 Test Centre is at Singapore Management University (SMU)! It's in the morning, from 1000 to 1235.

I am so excited, but I feel that I haven't prepared enough yet.. :s13: But, I'm still doing my best! =)
woof! just reach home...

well, i would like to say well done!
keep up the good work! :D

omg? 10k??? T.T

If you just stick to group lessons, it will cost you only about 1500 SGD for a total of Ele1 + Ele2 + Int1 + Int2 + Int3 + Int4 ~ JLPT3.

Assuming you go non-stop with no breaks in between, you can finish in 1 year. Some companies do take in JLPT3 holders, so from there you can use the pay increase [ not a lot but will help ] to pay for your future lessons. That way, basically your future investments in Japanese are considered free, so to speak.

Don't bullsh1t! People say there are no differences in tones for Japanese language.
Someone might come correct you. :s13:

PS: I am not from any Singapore Japanese community.

what my friends and my japanese friends matters is the accent only.... :D

It might be even better, if your company decides to sponsor your Japanese course, like keongさん's sponsor. =)

Are you referring to me ? Heh heh, I am just trying to get the standard tokyo accent right, I wonder if Japanese will understand my friend if she tried to say "coco" for "this place", maybe they will think she's talking about chocolate drink.

Anyway, maybe someone here can highlight how to pronounce the difference between
咳 and 席, both of which are せき, "cough", and "seat" respectively. But definitely don't sound the same, I had to be corrected many times by sensei to get them correct... :)

not referring to you lah... :D

me too, my friends say my accent still need some brushing up... :D

If you guys learned accent before, you guys should know how to read the above.

咳 is the same tone, until it ends the ki sound.

for 席, the tone goes down at the end of se.

Another thing to note, if it's 満席 (then the accent of 席 in this case won't be the same as the 席 mentioned above)

EDIT:

Managed to get it done.

Maybe my speakers are muffled, but it sounds a bit blurry, but yah, that's what I was talking about...

You have a audio clip of 満席 also ?

Come Feb / Mar 2010, you may have a bargaining chip for some extra pocket money...

For those thinking of taking up Japanese for career-purposes, the market rate from what i know:

a Degree holder with Business Japanese Cert+JLPT 1=$6-7k
a Degree holder with JLPT 1=$3.5-6k
a Diploma holder with JLPT 1=$3-4.5k

NOTE: this is subject to nature of job and speaking ability

So a conference interpreter would be 8-9k upwards ?

Maybe if there is a line-out jack for the electronic dictionary, and you have a male to male audio cable, can actually connect to pc [ to microphone jack ] to record with better sound quality...
