can someone recommend some self study books for jlpt 2?

i plan on getting one book for each section....

i was thinking of getting 完全マスター2級 日本語能力試験文法問題対策 for grammar

and 実力アップ!日本語能力試験2級 読解編 for reading comprehension....

a friend who just came back from japan recommended 日本語能力試験に出る漢字2級 for kanji learning... seems like its used in ikoma's jlpt 2 prep class or so i was told...

no idea what to get for listening though...

I've been studying full time at ikoma since November last year and i must say that the past 8 months have become a very memorable part of my life...having met so many nice people and nice senseis at ikoma....i conclude that i made the right decision in choosing ikoma...

if only i don't have to start uni next month...haha....or i would study full time all the way...changing to part time soon

err....does anyone know if it is possible to study japanese during the first semester for nus freshmen?

yup can take it as ur elective or breadth... can take the placement test to see which level u can jump to

I used 完全マスター for JLPT2 and it's more than sufficient for JLPT 2 grammar. The only disadvantage is that it's completely in Japanese so if you're not used to reading explanations in Japanese the intial part will be difficult. But I think it's better that way actually because some things just can't be explained properly in English (or Chinese). I used a kanji book that I got cheaply in Taiwan for the kanji part but I didn't spend a lot of time on it, since knowing Chinese I could guess the pronounciation even if I was not sure. The connundrum for me for Taiwanese textbooks though is that my Mandarin is horrendous so imagine trying to learn Japanese and trying to figure out the Chinese explanation at the same time

As for listening, I didn't prepare for it, other than watching some anime . So I wasn't sure what to expect during JLPT2. Surprisingly did all right. The part that killed me was the reading comprehension part because I didn't know how many questions were coming up and how much time I had to read. And I did a stupid thing by leaving the questions which I didn't have time to do blank, where I could have at least guessed some answers since they don't deduct marks for wrong answers Didn't do any prep papers in advance so had no idea what to expect. I still did all right overall, 300/400. I think my last section had 132/200 or something, while my listening was i think 70/100.

sorry if i am going off topic...

i planned to take the placement test next monday too. but upon considering, i guess it will be better to take in the 2nd semester onwards. since my curriculum is still unknown and the placement test results only last for 1 semester.

those who have taken japanese modules in nus may share with us their experiences? how are the lectures and tutorials like?

have just went to bunka, ikoma and hougang to take a look.

Find bunka special syllabus kind of interesting...seems more adapt to adult learners..? But the classroom looks really cramp to me...

Ikoma environment is most conducive for learning (at least to me), i the kind that like more personal space...the textbook looks fine to me... the kind of very traditional one, ohayo gozaimas, chen desu etc...though seem less exciting than bunka...

Dun really like hougang textbook...

So now struggling between ikoma and hougang

Anyone has studied in both BUNKA and IKOMA? Can please help to give some advise here? what's the pros and cons for doing it in either school? Please help. THanks so much!

Has anyone gone on those cultural immersion programs in Japan before. I'm looking at those short programs of about 4 weeks. I'll be graduating from my masters program at the end of this year and I thought I'd like to spend a couple of weeks polishing my Japanese before I go back to work. My Japanese is at JLPT 2 level but alas my conversational abilities are limited plus I feel I've hit a plateau in terms of learning in Singapore. If anyone is familiar with such programs I'd be very happy to hear your opinion of them.

Actually Hougang Textbook is almost the same as Ikoma's one.
Both of them are sister publications. What's more, you don't need to pay extra for the book.

4 weeks is a bit too short...

Try those that will allow u 2 stay in a host family, this will enable u 2 learn more in the "informal" context...

i previously had cultural exchanges .... It is fun and u can make lots of friends and also penpals that will help u brush up ur Jap...
