本当の秘密の武器:

1 - download Anki

2 - use excel to key in your words and save them as text files then import to Anki

3 - Chocolate: Dark chocolate only, the higher the cocoa content the better, but don't eat it 6hours before you sleep, unless you want to stay awake the whole night

4 - note the higher the cocoa content the chocolate, the less calories there is, so you have to pair it with high calorie food since the dark chocolate can provide longer bursts of focus, but without energy food, you would still get tired after 1 hour or so once the calorie in the chocolate get used up, assuming it's 70% cocoa content, this is what most people don't realize...

5 - please do not use milk chocolate, as a substitute in point 4, as the milk component is fat, and fat takes longer to convert into energy, and not suitable for lactose intolerant people, plus you don't want to get fat while studying !

Good tools will only work well with good technique, have fun !

I'm thinking of buying electronic dictionaries, any good model to recommend please? Will electronic dictionaries show whether the verb is from Group 1 or Group 2 verb?

I can't find jap electronic dictionary anywhere except at kinokuniya, but they only carry so limited kinds...and of brand that i never heard of like SII?

Something to help with remembering stuff and recall, just input the stuff you need to study, and dump the notes aside. Study anywhere, using your laptop, pda or iphone, sitting, standing or lying down. No more carrying stacks of writing paper just to write down lines and lines [ ok, minimal amount is still needed for kanji practise ].

I prefer anki over mnemosyne [ some people may be familiar with this ] over certain functions, plus can feedback to the developer himself for bugs or suggest new functions.

http://ichi2.net/anki/

http://www.mnemosyne-proj.org/

Tagaini Jisho has some spaced memory functions also, but with basic functions suitable for a new user but not really customizable.

With these software it's possible to revise through a few hundreds of facts [ if you already learnt them before ], or 50-70plus [ new facts ], over 1 hour.

Start by eating Dars chocolate... Ha ha

But the chocolate is not really cheap if you compare it to other high cocoa content chocolate in price per 100grams, so you have to try many types to see what works for you.

Ah. It is so coincidental that I ran into this thread since I hardly come onto the forums.

I am currently learning Japanese. I have to say that I'm not all that hardworking and I have always had issues with learning languages 'technically' if you know what I mean. To further explain, it means to sit in classes and listen to explanation on why you say this and why you say that.

Also, the other thing that drew me to post in this thread is that I seem to have detected a mild interest in the Translation / Interpretation field here. I myself am looking at possibly doing a degree in Translation and Interpretation so I am currently interested in this area, but I have absolutely no heads nor tails about how it would work in Singapore.

I have registered for JLPT, but after running through a listening comprehension paper last night, I"m kinda worried and depressed.....
