Sorry I'm a noob, but when you all just start learning japanese, how do you all memorise the hiragana and katakana? Cause I just started lessons and I'm finding a suitable method

1. Listen in class and do the homework
2. Get your own square notebook(pri. sch. chinese type) and write each character about 50 times
3. Find phrases to write 50 times(do phrases help one to remember individual characters better?)
4. Stare at the chart and recite to yourself
5. Read elementary japanese books

If you could, kindly give me details of your training regime Like how many times you wrote each character a day/books you read/shows you watched/ etc. etc.

HIragana and katakana: Just write..... everyday write 3 times at least and you will remember that for life

If you can, get a good jap electronic dictionary. Buy from Japan (cos they are much cheaper than those sold in Singapore)

I have the Casio Ex Word XD-SF6200 for a year now and definitely would recommend to anyone getting their first electronic dictionary. Of course buying it from the shops here(If any) would be much more expensive then buying even through online.
