Hey azumangadaioh, do you think it would be possible to self-study Int4?

N4 が申し込んだけど,今まだInt2 を習っています。もし試験が出来るようになったら,自習をしなきゃならない。

its possible if you just want to pass the test. but not good if you want to speak/write proper Japanese.
from the sentence above, assuming that you wrote it yourself, can see a few mistakes, a bit messy.

Hi All,

I have been stalking :s13: this thread for few days and managed to read 70% of the entries. I've been interested in Japanese culture for years and finally had the courage to learn the language. I decided to register for JCS after reading all feedbacks. But since registration is still 3 months away, i would like to do some self study.

There are many online materials, tetxbooks , guides etc available. I am overwhelmed and confused. I've learnt Hirgana and Katakana and are ready to proceed to the next stage. After much comparison, I decided to use these materials. Can anyone advise if I am on the right track or am I being too ambitious?

Other than Japanesepod101, are there any other sites where I can learn about pronounications?
I do not have any japanese or japanese speaking friends :(
Thank you very much and I appreicate all feedbacks.

Does anyone have access to the Ikoma notes? Not the textbooks they use but rather, the notes from the language school itself? If you have it, would really appreciate if you can pass me a copy (hard or soft, both are fine) regardless of the level the notes are :o

Thanks in advance! :D

in order not to overwhelm yourself, the Japanese for Busy People (Kana version) would be sufficient to prepare for JCS Elementary :D

Have Fun!

Hi, I was browsing thru this A Dictionary of Basic Japanese Grammar (http://www.amazon.com/Dictionary-Ba...=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1285224588&sr=1-3
) at Taka Kino last Sat. Author gives many examples and I find it helpful? I am considering if I should get it but it costs almost $67 and I bursted my budget for this month.

There is a A Dictionary of Intermediate Japanese Grammar and A Dictionary of Advanced Japanese Grammar too by same author.

Maybe you can check it out at Taka Kino.

If u mean attending int4 w/o missing any single lesson, then revise on yr own then take the Int4 final test at yr own convenience, it's possible.

If u mean w/o attending any class but hv all e notes fr someone else, still possible, but slightly harder, since u will be missing out on the classroom experience [ including audio listening exercises ]. And in case u dont know, there is a listening comprehension test other than e usual oral & written test for Int4, u need to pass that also in order to qualify for PA1 [ unless u r able to get exemption ].

If u only hv the textbk, but no notes, then gd luck. Textbk is only meant as a [ teaching ] guide to senseis, trying to interpret e various nuances in e textbk w/o sensei & no notes [ e gems in e lessons ] is not recommended [ may b possible, but may take long time & monumental effort ]. Unless u really need 2 save e money, otherwise, it's not worth it from a cost-benefit point of view.

Yes, i have the textbook and the notes from my friend for Int3-4. But, I am also going to register for Int 3 and subsequently Int 4. It is just that by the time Dec 5 arrives, I would nbe at Int 3 Lesson 7. And I find that N4 would pose much more of a challenge then N5 by December, hence my decision to register for it. Regardless of my result, it is just to gauge my standard. Pass or fail, next year still do N3 haha. thanks anw!

its possible if you just want to pass the test. but not good if you want to speak/write proper Japanese.

haha yea i did. =:p pls advise on improvements!
