you think this way cos you are not rich yet but when you become rich your thinking may change.

Alienware 17 R3 laptop is really good for the price and with Alienware Graphics Amplifier, it take gaming up one level for laptop users.

Sorry but if I'm rich, I still won't spend $5k for a gaming laptop + some add on. I rather spend on this :D

I think in due time when the wireless specs mature, alienware may look into doing just that. The graphics amplifier is a sign that alienware dare to research into unconventional means to make interesting gaming systems.

But gamers will need some convincing to do something wirelessly, the common idea is wireless is bad for gaming

wireless still not that stable compare to wired thus nowadays gaming mouse/keyboard still wired as you dont want you gaming half way on Dell Alienware laptop than reach the most critical moment and the sad thing happen~ the wireless got no signal/lose signal your action cannot be executed.

IMHO, Since they are touted as gaming machines, it does not make any sense to include intel realsense camera and 4k UHD due to the below:
1. The alienware family are already selling at a premium, why make it even more expensive by adding more premium stuffs?
2. There are not much games that make use of intel realsense camera at this point of time. (Dell Inspiron 24 7000 and Dell Venue 8 7000 need it to justify the prices =:p )
3. Dell do know that a FHD is sufficient for gaming for a 15"+ screen, can't really see the differences. (It is available in Dell Inspiron 15 7000 to justify the price too =:p )

the Dell Alienware 15 R2 display also not simple default is 220nits display while you can upgrade to until 300nits display

if Alienware upgrade to become 4K display think another few hundreds on top of it haha

They didn't state specifically what GPU they are using.. Disappointing

2gb video memory sounds like entry level gpu or mobile gpu.

This Alienware Alpha I think more of Steam machine too.

The alienware alpha uses something like 960m/750ti gpu, it is not as fast as the 970m/980m of alienware 15 laptops

MSI has a copycat version of Alienware R3 Laptop with external Graphic Amplifier unit.

Not only the MSI laptop with gaming dock is cheaper but also lighter and portable too!

I guess Dell Alienware or Dell Inspiron series need to work harder to design something that consumers want, cheap, portable and powerful.

this will pawn Dell Alienware series laptop deep deep due to its lightweight but think the GPU in the laptop is weak right that why could achieve such weight compare to Alienware mid-tier GPU in their Alienware laptop

People use similar setup like this for flight simulator game with flight controller . actually in real life those see stock market will need such multi screen. Dell Alienware laptop should be no issue to have such setup too.

Personally i think the Dell Graphics Amplifier more suitable to purchase together with Dell Alienware 13 gaming laptop as the Alienware 13 is much lighter 2kg so you can bring it out without feel heavy/bulky. When you at home you want to have better graphic experiences you connect to the Graphics Amplifier to booast the GPU power. If you find 13inch screen is small you can even have a Dell monitor screen connect to the laptop when you gaming at home :)

somehow this setup strike a balance between gaming experience & portable if you wish to bring the laptop out for work/study purpose.

I prefer 4k for work purposes like in 15 7000 Inspiron, XPS15 and Precision. For a pure gaming machine, 1080p and 120hz is better for gamers, hence will like to see alienware offer monitor upgrade options for high refresh panel that is either IPS or AMVA, no TN panel please

I guess if Dell Alienware 17 R3 uses USB3.0 connecting to Alienware Graphics Amplifier , it may not have the bandwidth and speed to render the graphics properly.

Liquid cooling in the Alienware Graphics Amplifier may add another 50% case size and 100% price, the total price may cost $999~

USB 3.0 can only offer 5 Gbps or 640 MB/s, which is suffocatingly low to support graphics card.... :s22:

Liquid cooling option can be optionally, meaning not included inside the amplifier. They can partner up with renowned custom watercooling parts company like Bitspower to release a mini AIO unit. If i'm not wrong there already exist tiny reservoir small enough to mount inside the amplifier on that vacant space.

Alienware laptops and Alienware Graphics Amplifier are partially made from Carbon Fibre but I don't think Titanium can be used. Aluminum or Magnesium Alloys are possible materials.

lol where did they state their Graphics Amplifier using carbon fibre? :s22:

Dear MSI/DELL and ALL THE MANUFACTURERS:
enough enough enough of proprietary cables!!! It is increasing our e-waste and extremely damaging to our environment! If you only used one standard, then we all can freely swap brand to brand. Even if you do not get our business for the laptop, you might still get for say the graphics amplifier or accessories, if they were universal to begin with!

Hence, if I had a choice, I will use a new universal format with MSI and other gaming manufacturers to connect our Graphics Amplifier to our laptop, be it Asus ROG, Dell Alienware 17 R3 or MSI Ghost. Probably have the whole system linked up with ultrahigh speed cables and remove the dedicated graphics for lighter body. Maybe implement something like the Surface Pro and Lumia 950 series - "liquid" cooling.

Furthermore, I might just have a curved edge somewhere, like the S6 Edge or BlackBerry Priv to do quick actions etc. :o

Furthermore, unlike other competitors like MSI etc, Alienware is not 100% user-modifiable such as the keyboard. Give us a full standard customization keyboard, like what MSI did with Cherry.

Which company would want to lose exclusivity to their own innovation technology?

at least the GPU insert into the Dell Alienware Graphics Amplifier can upgrade when time to come and the Alienware Graphics Amplifier PSU got enough juice

graphics card in the Dell Alienware Graphics Amplifier can be upgraded to new ones but they have a height limitation. Msi GTX 980 is unable to fit into the case.

Yes but for now, when the technology become more mainstream then more games and app for the realsense camera will appear and they will start to add it into more devices and models

It will be good if Alienware Graphics Amplifier could be use with Dell Inspiron series laptop~ win win situation lightweght when go out for normal usage while back at home extended GPU for high tier gaming experiences.

But back to reality i think Dell dedicated this Alienware Graphics Amplifier for their alienware gaming laptop series doubt will provide to Dell Inspiron series laptop as it will affect their alienware sales perhaps this is a unique selling point for alienware laptop too. By adding this special port/function in Dell Inspiron will also increase additional cost to the laptop

yea, too limited the choices. i think many ppl would request for it.

what is that? for 5k plus you get one of the best Alienware gaming laptop plus Alienware Graphics Amplifier. too bad it doesn't come with Intel RealSense 3D camera and can't use Windows 10 Hello.

wah... really jialat... so many wires here and there... not for me.

for Alienware Graphics Amplifier to Alienware 17 R3 laptop only need to connect one cable. the others are for big screen monitor or keyboard if needed.
