1080p FHD can run at 60fps but definitely not on High settings.

But yeah i agree with you. Alienware should have better designed their Alienware Graphics Amplifier to complement their Alienware laptops.

Now it just looks like regular console to me. The only thing that lights up is the Alien logo. No extra light strips like the laptop. Or maybe they should put the light strips inside the box as well :o

Powerful performance not enough. Must have the gamer design look too.

Agree on this as said previously, this Graphics Amplifier looked more like an unpolished, rushed out product with little to no refinement. It will have been perfect if they can sacrifice a bit to increase its length for acceptance of the longest top-end cards like GTX Titan X. Also don't mind making it tall standing like their Alienware X51 or Silverstone FT03 Mini. At least that won't seem as bulky as what is offered now.

Watercooling support is also very much welcomed. Best if the Alienware skull logo can double up as a turbo button to automate overclocking of the GPU, with preset profile in Alienware Command Center suite. Looks wise, i find it is more or less there, but choice of aluminium just as their laptop back panel should come wiser at upgrading its aesthetics and also help dissipate heat better.

Dont think its possible to SLI. The GPU from the Alienware Graphics Amplifier will be used instead.

Is NVIDIA SLI supported with an Alienware notebook when combined with an Alienware Graphics Amplifier including an NVIDIA graphics card?

No. When using an Alienware Graphics Amplifier, the internal graphics processor is disabled. However, NVIDIA Optimus technology continues to function with the on-board Intel graphics processor and the GPU in the graphics amplifier.

yeah. and if im not wrong. if u are running on i7, it can even overclock it.

Boss reporting in.
Hope everyone had a good holiday.
We see so many discussions out there so our question to everyone is this:
What do you guys love about Alienware? And if you have a choice, what parts would you change to make your Alienware more awesome? :o
I love the sleek and cool design of Dell Alienware and the top-notch specs.
But sadly the size/weight is a deal-breaker, at least to me. Given a choice, I hope to make the Alienware more compactable and to incorporate the Graphics Amplifier into the main body. :D Dreaming?! :D

Dear MSI/DELL and ALL THE MANUFACTURERS:
enough enough enough of proprietary cables!!! It is increasing our e-waste and extremely damaging to our environment! If you only used one standard, then we all can freely swap brand to brand. Even if you do not get our business for the laptop, you might still get for say the graphics amplifier or accessories, if they were universal to begin with!

Hence, if I had a choice, I will use a new universal format with MSI and other gaming manufacturers to connect our Graphics Amplifier to our laptop, be it Asus ROG, Dell Alienware 17 R3 or MSI Ghost. Probably have the whole system linked up with ultrahigh speed cables and remove the dedicated graphics for lighter body. Maybe implement something like the Surface Pro and Lumia 950 series - "liquid" cooling.

Furthermore, I might just have a curved edge somewhere, like the S6 Edge or BlackBerry Priv to do quick actions etc. :o

Furthermore, unlike other competitors like MSI etc, Alienware is not 100% user-modifiable such as the keyboard. Give us a full standard customization keyboard, like what MSI did with Cherry.

I guess if Dell Alienware 17 R3 uses USB3.0 connecting to Alienware Graphics Amplifier , it may not have the bandwidth and speed to render the graphics properly.

Liquid cooling in the Alienware Graphics Amplifier may add another 50% case size and 100% price, the total price may cost $999~

Dell can do another mitx alienware that is more powerful than that alienware alpha, and shaped like a gigatenic aliens head, with water cooling and the radiator can be part of alien skull. I feel people who will buy fully built pc wants something special and not possible with diy. Apple has a dustbin Mac pro which is powerful but still compact because they invested in a custom designed to work in such small footprint

Never heard of this technology USB powershare. Probably now we need to charge many devices through the USB port so it is more useful now. Dell should introduce this technology to all their Inspirion and XPS series, instead of only the Alienware series.

This always on USB port feature on laptop was also available on Lenovo laptops last time. Not only solely on Alienware R2 or Dell Inspiron

The "Always On USB" feature that comes equipped on most IBM/Lenovo ThinkPads allows you to charge your MP3 player, phone and sundry gadgets even when your laptop is turned off. While this feature is turned off in most default factory settings, you can turn it on via the ThinkPad T400's "Power Manager."

The Alienware Graphics Amplifier will allow Alienware owner to use desktop GPU series to enhance their gaming experience ma....

Alienware 17 R3 does not have a powerful GPU as compared to Desktop GPU? :s11:

Else, why are consumer paying more for Alienware 17 R3 when a dell inspiron 17 7000 is just less than 50% of the price? :s11:

Since need to get a Alienware Graphics Amplifier for Alienware laptop, the Alienware laptop like handicapped.

Actually the Alienware Amplifier is a little outdated since Nvidia has managed to squeeze the desktop GTX 980 into laptops.

:s22: seems like Dell Alienware need to change their current GPU in the laptop into latest one. Else I wonder how many will go buy the Alienware Graphic Amplifier.

Maybe getting a Dell Inspiron 17 7000 with 4K UHD Touchscreen would be a better gaming experience with the touchscreen and maybe Intel Realsense camera external unit.
