alienware-graphics-amplifier-fan.jpg

A pity that this Graphics Amplifier only included a 80 mm fan on its chassis. A 120mm/140mm fan mount hole option will have been more welcomed by gamers as they can take advantage to mount the 120mm AIO watercooling radiator from Fury X, and also for enthusiast to convert their air cooled graphics card with hybrid watercooling using standalone AIO cooler mounts like Corsair Hydro HG10 A1 / NZXT Kraken G10. I believe there's also enough vacant space beside the power supply to house a mini water reservoir should enthusiasts want to take a step further to install custom watercooling system.

It's really for rich man/son only :s13:

Pairing a Fury X with an Alienware laptop is kinda wasted.

The graphics amplifier is a smart solution as Dell do not need to put the latest Nvidia mobile GTX980 in their alienware.

http://www.geforce.com/hardware/notebook-gpus/geforce-gtx-980
The gpu is a full GTX980, very fast but very hot and big to cool inside a laptop.

If the 3-4KG alienware is heavy, imagine what more weight will be added to laptops when you have GTX980 inside.

Dell Alienware 15 you can upgrade from NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 970M with 3GB GDDR5 to NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 980M with 4GB GDDR5 before upgrade the weight is already 3.2kg i suppose after upgrade wont increase much

for me the upgrade weight definitely less to consider than the price to upgrade which is at +$524.30

But the guy in the video seems to plug out as soon as he closed the laptop. Does it have auto-saving function while shutting down? The guy seems to plug out so easily, hopefully the cable is tight, imagine accidentally come off... :s22::s22::s22:

I think in the video is just wayang only la.. don't take it so seriously :s22:

instead of the Dell Alienware m17 R3 laptop, for the price i will simply get 1 desktop + 1 laptop.

Same for me hahaha. Dell Alienware m17 R2 or R3 laptop would be too overkilled for me now. Next time I more rich I wouldn't mind that.

Seem like Dell webstore abit not friendly toward Alienware 13

Since Alienware 13 has Alienware Graphics Amplifier Port i assume it should support usage of Alienware Graphics Amplifier. But the Alienware Graphics Amplifier was not available for purchase as addon accessories when you add Alienware 13 to the cart

instead if you wish to purchase the Alienware Graphics Amplifier you need to search for it and add to cart but here another potential problem occurred. Both Alienware 13 & Alienware Graphics Amplifier are in different cart thus will it cause problem for Alienware Graphics Amplifier warranty since it by default follow alienware laptop warranty if purchase together

Perhaps boss admin can feedback to your client about issue purchasing Alienware Graphics Amplifier with Alienware 13.

Actually all gaming laptop with quad core and at least a nvidia 970m cost around $2.4k, so to say alienware expensive is not just them.

The pro of alienware laptop is the strong material used for enclosure, it is heavy but solid. It is also big in a sense it is design to allow more air to flow through the system, and the same design can hold 970m and 980m gpu. The last bit is alienware allows you to open up the bottom and add new hardware such as ssd and ram.

actually if I have $2.4k budget I would rather go for MSI GE62 Apache Pro. $100 cheaper and I get a better screen, same graphics card

:s22: I guess the guy in the video with Dell Alienware 13 R2 already out of battery and need to go home to charge.

The so called all day battery life on their Dell website only last about 5 hours~ :s22:

I guess gaming on Dell inspiron 15 7000 with 4K UHD touchscreen rated 8 Hrs battery life can last through morning to evening~

Dell Alienware R2 R3 all included hor

That's quite cool, no need add additional $300 accidental damages :oo

Dell inspiron 15 7000 series laptop seems like not premium enough for the big warranty coverage

The secret that makes Alienware 17 R3 so rigid and durable is the use of carbon fibre reinforced composite as main material to build its frame structure which contributes to its resilience and lighter weight. Such thoughtful implementation allows the frame to withstand the huge and heavy heatsink residing inside to cool Core i7 and GTX 980M. It can also prevent the heavy laptop from warping and flexing on the long term.

I've seen many occurrences of people banging and dropping their plastic and aluminium built laptops and they simply deform easily and permanently. With such carbon frame, the laptop can also survive minor-moderate bangs without any severe deformities and consequently warping and spoiling sensitive PC parts inside. In fact, it may also last longer than your regular plastic notebook and saves you on the long run with less frequent laptop renewals.

Because Inspiron series are the basic model. Dell XPS and Alienware are premium level.

Wah after some googling, this machine is really not simple, still need an external device, Alienware Graphics Amplifier that allows you to attach a full-length desktop graphics card to provide desktop-like performance on laptop by amplify the graphics. And the price for it does not include a GPU and it works with Alienware 13 laptop only.

But look like the article(1 yr old) is really outdated I just gone through dell website, all alienware 15 R2, 17 R3, 13's product description all mentioned can work with the graphics amplifer. The laptop in the video looked big, I am guessing it is alienware 17 R3.

Lucky it is optional for the price and imagine carrying around with the laptop.

http://www.extremetech.com/computing/193000-the-alienware-graphics-amplifier-finally-desktop-quality-graphics-on-your-laptop

Take note that there are still physical limitation for choices of gaming graphics card to be installed in this Alienware Graphics Amplifier as it cannot take in cards any more than 2 slots wide and GTX 980 Ti as it is simply too long, despite power supply having enough horsepower to power it.
