think Dell name it Alienware desktop Area-51 think is because they feel their this range of gaming desktop more powerful than the infamous USA's Area 51 which rumoured to have alien inside the area.

hopefully that model Alienware nice design but still allow DIY modification of parts inside or else look nice outside but cannot touch inside

Alienware 17 R3 with Alienware Graphics Amplifier is more than enough for normal gaming even those AAA titles. laptop is always better than desktop and Area-51 is more expensive than Alienware 17 R3.

I think Dell makes more money from Dell Alienware 17 R3 gaming laptops since sell one can earn 2-3 times the profit margin le :o

their low range $500-600 is very affordable, they aiming at primary school students issit. the specs should be for very basic usage ba. maybe i can also fit into this category since mostly used for videos, MS office and surf surf web only :s13:

buyers would prefer to get Dell Alienware 17 R3 gaming laptops with Alienware Graphics Amplifier since it doubles as latpop as well as desktop and you can carry it around. it should be quite well selling than other models like their Dell Inspiron 15 7000 or Dell Inspiron 24 7000 with Intel RealSense 3D camera.

Dell Alienware 17 R3 already comes with GTX970M.. why still need to use Alienware Graphics Amplifier :s22:

data taken from here. unless you really have a lot of money to spend, it's not worth spending extra $400 for the Alienware Graphics Amplifier and extra $450-$500+ for a GTX970.

Tight budget plus non gamer like me definitely will not pick Dell Alienware series le. I think Inspiron 15 7000 will be more suitable for my daily usage, surf net and some data analysis....:o

Boss reporting in.

Hope everyone had a good holiday.

We see so many discussions out there so our question to everyone is this:
What do you guys love about Alienware? And if you have a choice, what parts would you change to make your Alienware more awesome? :o

Alienware 17 R3 has all the specs a normal gamer even a hardcore one would want. furthermore this Alienware 17 R3 if paired with Alienware Graphics Amplifier is as powerful as a desktop computer and to top it off this laptop also comes with Creative Sound Core3D-EX. good sound good graphics and i7. this is what i love abt Alienware laptop.

i would want to change the weight of the laptop as many others mentioned it is quite heavy. also i would want to add a sdd for faster os booting and more usb ports. if also possible add an Intel RealSense 3D camera then we can use Windows 10 Hello and make youtube videos with green screen function.

for a non-gamer they would not look at Alienware series as these Alienware laptops are aimed at gamers including those hardcore ones. for your needs, a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 or Dell XPS 13/15 would be suitable. it is less taxing on your pockets and it also allow you to game less demanding games or casual gaming.

Yes for a light gamer like me, the Dell Inspirion 15 7000 would be good enough. Alienware series would be overkill.

there are people who want to have GTX Titan X for their laptop but their laptop is a i7. with Alienware Graphics Amplifier, they need not buy a new laptop but just add the GTX Titan X to it.

different people have different needs and they too have different budget. some with more budget than another and dun mind spending more to get what they want or need.

the Alienware Graphics Amplifier is introduced to give gamers an extra choice and it is still better than spending another few thousands to change to a brand new desktop with GTX Titan X right??

Yes Alienware 17 R3 with Graphics Amplifier is more than enough for gaming. The Area-51 series is probably for those who are rich.

yes now is a good time to buy Dell Inspirion 15 7000 laptop since there is $250 discount voucher available. after that you can play warcraft while waiting for the new movie to be out next year.

looking at Area-51 price, i would expect the graphics card to be GTX Titan X instead of GTX 980 and it also doesn't have Creative Sound Core3D-EX. good graphics but the sound quality isn't good. it doesn't deliver the best gaming experience.

I think the Dell Alienware R2 with USB PowerShare is not a new technology exclusive to Dell. Acer have that technology since 1990's.

That era no mobile smart phone, only a laptop cooler using the acer laptop usb port. After I shutdown the laptop, unplug from power socket, i wonder why the laptop cooler still running. They did not advertised this great technology that time~ :s22:

I wonder if Dell Inspiron 7000 series has such USB PowerShare? In shutdown mode, when the Intel Realsense Camera detected my present, the computer will auto startup and load the Internet Explorer or any preset software?

Never heard of this technology USB powershare. Probably now we need to charge many devices through the USB port so it is more useful now. Dell should introduce this technology to all their Inspirion and XPS series, instead of only the Alienware series.

like I said.. if you really got A LOT of money to spend (if you get an Alienware laptop I think its self-explanatory :s22:), you think worth to spend extra (total) $800+ to get a boost of 20-30 fps?

I would get triple SLI with the Alienware Area-51 desktops! :)

Dear MSI/DELL and ALL THE MANUFACTURERS:
enough enough enough of proprietary cables!!! It is increasing our e-waste and extremely damaging to our environment! If you only used one standard, then we all can freely swap brand to brand. Even if you do not get our business for the laptop, you might still get for say the graphics amplifier or accessories, if they were universal to begin with!

Hence, if I had a choice, I will use a new universal format with MSI and other gaming manufacturers to connect our Graphics Amplifier to our laptop, be it Asus ROG, Dell Alienware 17 R3 or MSI Ghost. Probably have the whole system linked up with ultrahigh speed cables and remove the dedicated graphics for lighter body. Maybe implement something like the Surface Pro and Lumia 950 series - "liquid" cooling.

Furthermore, I might just have a curved edge somewhere, like the S6 Edge or BlackBerry Priv to do quick actions etc. :o

Furthermore, unlike other competitors like MSI etc, Alienware is not 100% user-modifiable such as the keyboard. Give us a full standard customization keyboard, like what MSI did with Cherry.

Hmm looks like Alienware Graphics Amplifier might bottleneck the graphics bandwidth?

No sure. Maybe current gen not yet but next gen... Hmm... The Graphics Amplifier is meant to extend the lifespan of the Dell Alienware 17 R3 and Alienware 18 M8 and their whole series... but if bottleneck... :vijayadmin:

of course.. after all you already spend almost $3k for a laptop, $1.7k for Titan X and $400 for Alienware Graphics Amplifier is small change :s22:

No leh. That is for now... Later when Nvidia come up with even better graphics than AMD's "next gen" then these Dell Alienware laptops become outdated. Then use the Dell Graphics Amplifier on the Dell Alienware 17 R3, it suddenly become more powerful!
