Just sent my G4 (S/N: 508) in yesterday on the boot loop issue... lees than 6 mth old

They initially don't want to honor the warranty cos found SuperSU app installed. They said I rooted the phone.
Argued with CS that the app was installed via Google Play (not unauthorized) to check on "root" status due to GO Battery Saver need root access to disable Data Mobile when screen is off. Phone was never rooted.
I'm a former Xperia user and wanted the Stamina feature.
After CS consulted the supervisor and their technician, they honor the warranty and will replace the motherboard (S$300+).

How did they find out what was on the phone if it's in bootloop ?

They will try to make you pay if you have root related files. If rooted, then they will definitely void unless you wanna play the lengthy legal game with them. Their service centre objective is to earn revenue by voiding warranty. Better asked them to show their display for the parts pricing as the price quoted are not consistent. Wonder if they are outsourced?

their parts pricing is super markup and usually wouldnt be worth it. For replacing camera lens cover I asked them and they quoted me $48 which in my case I might as well spend 1/4 of that order online and do a DIY replace. Then of course the motherboard replacement prices are like 300 to 400

from my experience the technicians are more understanding, its the front end counter staff who usually play hardball more

How did they find out what was on the phone if it's in bootloop ?

My wife actually helped to send my phone in for warranty repair.

Was told that LG uses a special tool to boot into the phone cos my wife wanted to backup the personal data since it can be boot into Android. LG said the tool that they use does not allow to copy data out, which I doubt.

As my phone was installed with eset mobile security so will need password to unlock if w/o sim card. They ask for my password to access my phone

Why aren't u considering the V10? Dual sim, removable batt and a large screen which am assuming, u may like judging from your previous posts.. Moreover, no bootloop issue.. thus far. If only they had a slightly smaller version of the V10 without compromising on the features I'd get it.

Reason being they would not want to do data recovery for consumers. Ha, this is the part they will not boost. They claimed Korea HQ can even do forensic investigation on crippled phone. This shows what kind of information they can extract from all those boot looping G4 logic boards. I should have asked them to recover all my data for such claims.

I believe they can recover data after factory reset. Or even recover the security like pin, knock codes etc. Can someone ask them if their phone will call home with all these privacy stuffs. Lol

Bro, after you waited so long holding on to the G Pro 2, why settle for this G5? Eg It's subject to wear and tear increasing the gap at the battery compartment. The build quality also isn't LG'S best. And you are going down from 5.9 to 5.3. Even smaller than the G4.

I still think the V10 which I'm holding on to is a better built phone.

Haha, "still considering.... " So, quite unlikely as 5.3" is damn small...

V10... is just not my cup of tea else I would have bought it.

I probably will just buy a mid tier spec. dual sim phone as I need one soon while holding on to Pro 2 as the main driver.

V10 = stable phone (so far..)
G4 = if only this phone was stable and no BL issues..
G5 = kena whack by G4 thus, the bump on the rear and of course, the skepticism surrounding the G series ever since G4..

The way things are going with LG seems like will have to learn how to replace batts on unibody phones aredi in the long run..

Ae, the G5 is very solid except the design. Its heavy. No regrets changing to G5.

Frankly,

I do like the LG G5 design especially the curve glass. Looks elegant and class.. Hehe.

Only thing is that it is really too small at 5.3". Minus the OSB, it left with just 5.1" active display except video and YouTube playback...


So, pass the G5 then. Just have to wait for a bigger screen new model from LG next year...

the previous LGs were all plastickly too, like as in literally made of plastic, except the leather-backed G4

when i first held the G5 at M1 I instantly miss the ergonomic curve from the past, I guess you can adapt eventually but no denying the curve back was really more comfortable

Yes the only difference l is that unlike is predecessors the G5 feels cheaply light. Not a good feeling IMHO.

Strangely the official weight is heavier on the G5 than on G4. Even on mine.
But i do felt the specs though.

That's true, they are plastic, but has that resounding quality feel to it.
This feels figuratively and literally plastic - that doesn't suit my taste.
