what happened to the mother board ah...? I just bought an export set sia

A lot of people's phones are suddenly dying and stuck in boot screen when re-attempt to power on it looks to be affecting a whole batch of phones whose serial number (not IMEI) starts with '505'.

The 505 I think is the year and month naming format for manufacture date used by LG, 5 = 2015, 05 = May

You can check the serial no. on the box, or on the phone, if you remove the battery there should be a sticker stuck on the battery compartment with the serial and IMEI

This problem is scary cos once it strikes, you have no way to save your phone's internal memory, and of course when the service centre receives it, they will wipe the phone.

sony camera like not bad esp their z5 premium

Sony camera is overhyped. I come from a Z1 Compact in the past and the new xperias they use still arent up to standard in camera software, the phone still lacks OIS and the noise reduction still is too aggressive in low light

on side note, has anyone who went through the whole service process can help me confirm do they really need the proof of purchase? cos i cant find my receipt and only have the warranty card (which does have the retailer's stamp and all but its still no receipt)

For mine, I did not have the proof of purchase too. They closed one eye cos this phone is obviously less than a year old. However, they advise to bring it along if it's your first time sending it for service as you don't need that proof anymore for subsequent repairs (lol). Alternatively you can go to your telco and request for it to be mailed to you. Hope this helps.

I would suggest those who are still waiting to get back their G4 to give LG Service Centre a call to find out about the repair status after 3 working days. I have sent mine on 12th Dec in the morning. I called LG service centre on 16th and 17th Dec. Received a call on 17th Dec 2015 on the evening to notify me my phone has been repaired. Collected mine on 18th Dec. :)

now is christmas long weekend i doubt they'd be working on new support cases.

Mine went in on 23rd, if i dont hear anything by 29th or 30th I'll try and call them. If the issue is really widespread there's probably going to be a steadily growing queue of dead phones in line to be fixed. It looks like those who sent in earlier this month got the 2 week waiting time, while some of the newer cases here can get within 1 week so hopefully that means they finally restocked the motherboard supply

Time to #boycott #LG.

The lemon law in Singapore – Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) Act

Published on February 12, 2013

As a consumer, you would be able to make a claim for a defective product (also known as lemons) sold to you within 6 months of purchase. It is compulsory for a seller of a defective product to repair, replace, refund or reduce the price of the defective product (subject to certain conditions). This is provided for under the newly implemented lemon law that is encapsulated in Part III of the Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) Act.

How does the law define “defective product”?

Pursuant to the lemon law, a product is defined as “defective” if it does not conform to the agreement at the time of delivery. This definition is found in section 12B (1) (b) of the Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) Act.

Possible scenarios where a product sold does not conform with the agreement include:

Where the product does not correspond with their description; or
Where the product is not of a satisfactory quality; or
Where the product is not fit for any purpose communicated to the seller before the point of purchase.

Time limit

If you find that you have bought a defective product, you should first ascertain whether the product had been purchased within the past 6 months. If it was indeed so purchased within the past 6 months, remedies are available. However, if the nature of the goods is such that it is not meant to last beyond 6 months (e.g. consumable or perishable products), such products would not then entitle the buyer to the lemon law remedies.

Remedies available to the buyer

The buyer should bring the defective product back to the seller to ask for one of the following:

Repair of the defective product within a reasonable time at the seller’s cost; or
Replacement of the defective product within a reasonable time at the seller’s cost.

The entitlement to repair or replacement will be unavailable if repairing or replacing the defective product would be either impossible, or disproportionate in cost.

Additional remedies subject to certain conditions

Additionally, if the seller fails to repair or replace the defective good within a reasonable time, or if repair or replacement would be out of proportion in cost, the buyer may ask for:

Reduction in price of the defective product; or
Refund for the defective product.

What to do if the seller refuses to make good the defect

Should the seller refuse to make good on a defective product sold to you, you should bring the issue up to the Consumers Association of Singapore, a non-profit, non-governmental organisation dedicated to protecting the consumer interest, to have them look into the matter on your behalf.

Most service centres including Apple are repairing their products instead of exchanging them.

1:1 normally applies for products defective during the first 7 days of purchase - via telcos (not too sure if that has changed too).

Finally I got my G4 back! It's a nice gesture of LG to upgrade the firmware to Android 6.0, it feels fast and slick. I am still monitoring the battery usage on MM.. I hope it will get better. There is no way I am giving up an Android phone with removable battery and microSD support!

How long they took to call/ sms U for collection?
