ARGH... my LG G4 bootloop again. I sent it in for bootloop before CNY and now it's bootlooping again. So for those that sent in earlier for repairs please be careful. Apparently they may have misidentified the problem and not fixed the issue at all since the problem came back. Lost all confidence in LG. Going to change phone. Good luck to you all.

wah that sux considering that i have created quite a plenty to better organise my photos on my sd card.
for days liao still doing my photo recovery. tedious doing manual picking of photos to recover and then matching the 'time taken' of those pics to the ones of the filename of 0kb photos that i have lost (no way to preview except to use the date and time on the filename to match)

I did 1 experiment last night.

Used quickpic to bulk copy an entire album of photos several times onto the SD card

Not all of the photos came out 0kb when read by the PC. In fact for each time i tried copying, different combinations of the files were 0kb and not 0kb (readable as normal).

Repeated the copy experiment, this time using Solid Explorer instead of quickpic, similar result.

Deleted the copied albums using solid explorer, plug phone into PC, on the SD card, it shows the albums are still there.

Which leads me to believe that it's definitely a bug on the software side and not some file-locking thing that LG added into MM.

In the end, I managed to get all the photos onto the PC by mounting a OTG usb drive, and copying to the drive, then taking the drive and plugging it into the PC

that is very disappointing coz i have been using quickpic for ages. so is quickpic's problem. i have some folders affected and i suspect those folders were created by QP too (i have some created of the folders by another 3rd party app).

but those 0kb files affected on my camera root folders(untouched) i think were purely due to corruption.

Im a quickpic user too but every 3rd party app that I use, if they create files on SD, those files all show up as 0kb

In fact when i was at the service centre on Mon, I didnt use quickpic to demo to the service staff. I told them to use their test unit running MM, download any 3rd party camera app and try to save photos to SD card. They used OpenCamera and sure enough, their photos also 0kb

Is it possible to retrieve the data from the phone after it went into the boot loop? Has anyone tried the freezer method?

That is scary. Mine is working fine (so far) after mother board replacement due to boot looping. If this is a recurring problem even after a mother board replacement then....

Has anyone tried the freezer method?

I have heard of these methods not too sure how effective or even real they are.. Personally, I would not recommend it to anyone cos you risk getting your warranty void if condensation sets in which should be almost immediately, once you pull the phone out of the freezer. There is a label inside which will change colour if exposed to water or high amounts of condensation and your device will be rendered as water damaged equipment, period.

Right now you've lost your data with the above method, you may loose your phone too that is 2 out of 2.

LG has more or less screwed every G4 user on this planet.

As absurb as it sounds... I think my g4 has coil whine.. Placing the back of the phone to my ear. There seems to be ticking and high pitch sound coming from the top.

ok seems like i need go down tomorrow...when taking a video, the ticking sound is actually recorded by the phone....

my phone just died yesterday nite. freezed, went to bootloop. restart. repeat.
came here. read the thread..felt so sucky. should have read earlier. my mb sn was 505. anyways cut the story short, went to lg service centre, somehow the counter rep managed to "recover" back my phone. went home straight, back-up everything and factory reset. tmr heading down again to send in for service.

for those who got stuck into bootloop, do nothing else. remove battery and simcard. retain your sdcard in your phone. head to service centre. might have the slightest chance can bootup again. best of luck!

p/s: even though can bootup, the phone was laggy as hell. took me around 2 hrs just to transfer about 4gb of media/sms/whatsapp data.
