The G5 is something like the second commandment after
V10. The new system in being modular is not wrong by
itself.

It is something consumers have to learn and discover
its beauty in the common sense of being a friend to whoever
is the owner.

I have not used LG phones but what do you lose when you switch to Easy Home mode (in order to get back the apps drawer)? I'm sure you lose quite a bit of features and flexibility.

Do you think this solution would be relevant to more advanced users (switch to Easy home mode just so that they can get back the apps drawer) ?

For the more advanced user, "power and flexibility" is to use another launcher that gives you the apps drawer *and* maintain all the standard home launcher features. I doubt the solution for them is to use the Easy Home mode.

No, only main cam.

This is a secondary camera though, it has an 8MP sensor, f/2.4 aperture, but more importantly it doesn't even have autofocus, let alone image stabilization.

f/2.4 on the wide angle camera... not sure if that will impact low light performance when trying to shoot wide angle.

I like the G5's main camera but am struggling to see how it improved over the G4 so its a camera i like which happens to be of similar performance standard to another camera that I already own...

Now starting to wonder will any phone camera that is not a lumia or lumix ever be able to surpass the 1/2.3 inch sensor barrier

Ok so people still legitimately think the G5's easyhome is a solution to bring back the app drawer so I think I better step in for a bit and show what easyhome currently looks like on the G4.

Here I set my G4 to easyhome

1. Theres no dock and the icons are huge

2. Theres no widget customisation. The ones you see there are the only ones youre stuck with

3. You cant rearrange icons. That means when you long press you dont get to drag the icon elsewhere. Instead when you long press an existing icon, it prompts you to replace it with another, or delete.

4. Icons are always added in from the top left so you get to feel what iOS looks like for a change

5. The 'app drawer' is a little widget thing you see on the 2nd page which is there cos the 1st page cant fit it. Presumably in the G5, the widget is shrunk to an icon side like in that video

So... anyone still wanna come out and argue that Easyhome is a solution?

If LG is smart, they will follow Nova and implement the app drawer as a icon size widget that can be inserted into the homescreen.

ya when i said "lumia or lumix" the lumix refers to the CM1 since its the brand name of panasonic's cameras.

i dont think the CM1 was really that good anyway because it had some weird design choices like no OIS, no optical zoom for such a bulky shape, and somehow they wanted to rely on its own processor for the imaging, so it had some weaknesses that it really shouldnt have had (eg. it can only record 15fps 4K while I think phones like Samsung S5 which use the same CPU, can do 30fps 4K)

all these phones that 'emphasise' on camera, I doubt there is a viable market for them because they all have compromises in 1 place or another. Even samsung gave up after 2 generations of 'zoom' phones. Furthermore there isnt really a strong demand when all consumers do with smartphone photos is to share them on social media, even for photos of significant events (my personal example: i used a samsung SIII for my grad photos in 2013).

The only frontier that remains unconquered is low light photography and i dont know if the industry is willing to shift their paradigm to improve that area. Pixels have grown larger, lenses have wider aperture than ever, but sensors are the same size (nobody is even trying to make them a bit bigger) because people still want their 'thin' phones.

So instead of being able to capture more light and reap the benefits of things like better dyanmic range and less noise, all the phone makers are just trying to capture the same amount of light as before, and pray that their software can do magic. I noticed the G5 marketing material didnt boast the long exposure or the low light unlike the G4 marketing, does this mean that any improvements werent even worth mentioning?

such a tiny 5.3" display........Yucks!

I'm waiting for a larger display of at least 5.9" from LG......

Then V10 successor or LG G Pro 3 for you...

Only the modular magic slot is innovative. Smaller battery or camera bump no thanks. Ae, V10 like G4 too much plastics.

The top bezel is huge although the glass bends at the top. Actually, both g4 and g5 is of the same height but g5 had small display.

i heard that the V10 was pretty uncomfy to hold though. While i was at the service centre for bootloop fix I hands on one of the display model and the steel sides really do bite into your hands when you grip.

The LG decision to go metal with the G5 shows that it succumbed to the stereotype of metal unibody as some kind of de facto standard of aesthetic beauty, design wise the company is now just another xiaomi/huawei/HTC/ etc . I agree its rather sad cos the G4 and V10 showed such promise for LG standing out with its own design

If this keeps up, the entire android market may eventually just converge to metal and glass. Motorola and moto maker (assuming they even still exist by then) could be the sole remaining 'unique design' phones

Why u all no like G5?

I find the unibody metal not bad. Actually plastic also fine so long it is lightweight, v important as I like to use the phone everyday night, lying on bed. Too heavy will seriously impact the ease of holding it for longer period. We will put on a case ultimately right so how beautiful or ugly the back of the phone don't really matter anymore lol

However, the smaller battery is a downfall as I heard g4 has really weak battery life the moment u start using it. Standby mode seems fine. LG should starting optimizing software to improve battery life or it will cost them a heavy price to pay in future. Modular battery replacement is good but should not be taken for granted sake.

Samsung has improved their camera aperture to f1.7 while g5 didn't improve from last year's With so much social media, duno why LG isn't focusing on point-and-shoot...

Seems like G5 is trying too hard to fit the many toys into the modular design. Innovative, just doesn't interest me except the removable battery. Salute them for making tremendous effort!
