Well design aside (since that can be subjective) I think LG failed to improve in the areas that really needed improving like the battery, and instead tried to sell gimmicks like that rolling bot and VR headset

even read on XDA one person joked about it saying its 'LG's Friends without benefits'.

since I doubt anyone is going to take the Friends seriously, the LG G5 is going to live or die based on whether 3rd party companies even care enough to make modules for it. And honestly I dont think 3rd parties like the idea of modules. Anyone remember CES in 2014 when Razer had the modular PC project christine? No 3rd party was interested because it was just so proprietary.

And the same problem happens here. Think of all your R&D and manufacturing pour into making modules for a phone that isnt even gonna be used by the market majority (apple + samsung). How to justify the worth? Its like app developers dont wanna make windows apps cos everyone is in the Android/iOS camp.

Look at the MWC presentation video of LG. To them, the magic slot is just a part of the phone, not the main selling point itself. They didnt give a long term assurance like in future the G6, G7 etc all going to have the same bottom chin that follows the magic slot standard, 74mm by 7mm so people in future know that magic slot is here to stay. For all we know it may not even survive 1 generation, just like our "see the great feel the great" 100% Genuine Vegetable Tanned Leather Back

I don't like G5 is that, with such a powerful specifications and features, it is just a tiny 5.3"! It is such a waste on a SD820 and the 4GB RAM..! :vijayadmin:

Imagine if it has a 5.9" QHD display with the powerful SD820/4GB RAM.....WOW....playing games and video watching would be so awesome! :s8:

I hope LG pops up a 5.9"'s G5 Max or G5 Pro or whatever name LG wants to name it.......... =:p

Just realized something, since the bottom part is removable, I imagine this phone will look ugly with glass screen protector.

Too bad for LG.. The proprietary "magic slot" interface and those gimmicky friends might not help them to rake in huge profits!! Most probably 3rd party manufacturer will not be able to make a battery without permission or license from LG.. So every module is LG way or the high way. Haha.. Good luck with that!

I reckon the glass protector stop before the magic slot.

It looks like G5 is not going to sell well to me

Their daring move away from their traditional design went in the wrong direction. Material is premium but the buttons placement that is uniquely LG is partially gone. LG flagship always had superb screen to bezel ratio. But totally lost it in G5 with the HUMONGOUS top bezel. Did they overhaul their design team?

Yup, it would be a distraction to see that edge of screen protector when looking at the screen. Also when swiping up and down when scrolling, I bet you can feel that edge or bump on the screen.

i heard that the V10 was pretty uncomfy to hold though. While i was at the service centre for bootloop fix I hands on one of the display model and the steel sides really do bite into your hands when you grip.

The LG decision to go metal with the G5 shows that it succumbed to the stereotype of metal unibody as some kind of de facto standard of aesthetic beauty, design wise the company is now just another xiaomi/huawei/HTC/ etc . I agree its rather sad cos the G4 and V10 showed such promise for LG standing out with its own design

If this keeps up, the entire android market may eventually just converge to metal and glass. Motorola and moto maker (assuming they even still exist by then) could be the sole remaining 'unique design' phones

No matter what, glass and metal are premium materials to begin thus the weight in hand. Plastics will still continue to dominate the lower end of the mobile market due to cost.

The feel can be minimise with thin 2.5d glass. Cant get any better.

I also think that LG screwed it all up with G5!!:(

They are so naive to think having removable battery regardless is the winning recipe. But instead gave a smaller battery. 2800mah seriously? G5 must have more empty space in the unit itself.

Even V10 bigger form factor did not get a battery bump from G4 3000mah. LG is really a joke.

Ya, S7 edge increase the battery size by a whopping 20% compared to S6 edge+, even though S6 edge+ battery is already quite good. Cannot believe LG will reduce the size of their already poor battery performance.

Actually Samsung only needs removable battery to crush LG to a pulp. The double curved glass on the edge is most welcome in real physical touch.

A bold move from LG but proved futile. Adding features and cutting corners at the same time is simply distasteful.

I really dun think Samsung even care about the existence of LG.

G4's sale already proved that it's only a handful of people who wants removable battery.
