i think the thing about such camera comparisons is that when side by side then you see the little differences, but in a vacuum without a 'reference' standard most people would find they're good enough.

Still waiting for the day manufacturers stop trying to chase "thin and light" so that we can finally have the chance to see phones pack larger sensors, however the current trend seems to be dual cameras instead...

Agree totally. I see a few blind camera test or camera shootouts, the truth is most if not all the phones in the camera test actually produce pretty good photos already which should be sufficient for the average user.

Just that for some reason there is an obsession with pixel peeping and all these days. Or maybe it's just human nature, we just wanna compare to see which is better.

Also, these blind tests do have a flaw in them. Namely, the accuracy of color reproduction is not considered. Without being present at the actual scene itself, the people voting don't have any reference other then the photos shot and they will tend to just choose the most pleasing one to their eye, which for the majority tends to be the one with more vibrant colours. This, however, ignores the fact that the more vibrant photo may not accurately reflect the actual conditions.

In my opinion, the flagships these days all can produce equally good photographs for the majority needs, and thus you should simply just choose one that suits your needs.

When i see people buy phones with Leica badge/ Hasselblad attachment or Carl Zeiss markings.
All marketing hypes. branding cannot replace the law of physics, unless the lens and sensors are larger and better... there is no giant shift in quality.

Unfortunately, consumers vote with their wallets. When you have a fatter smartphone, no one wants to buy them. Or they do have better sensors but poor in the overall UI experience - Sony Xperia for instance.

At least of recent years, there has been deviations from the types of cameras in the phones. Now we have wide angles from LG - still monopoly - and we have bokeh phones like Huawei, and we have zoom phones like ASUS Zenfone Zoom / Zoom S.

Huawei bokeh is just a circular blur filter. Not bokeh at all.

Asus zoom look interesting.

I also tried the zte axon. Wahh the sound and camera control is very good.

it really goes down to the marketing that determines how well a company can sell to customers

the iphone 7 plus for example is quite a fat phone that sells pretty well

LG did that whole DSLR replacement for its marketing for the G4

Now to be fair the G4 was a pioneer in making manual mode photography available to a mainstream phone, and to be fair the G4 did have a wider aperture than other phones at that time, but having 'slightly better bokeh' and the ability to shoot in manual doesnt make your phone a DSLR killer. The sensor size difference is far too great (think the largest phone sensor on record is the one on the 808 pureview)

thats what happens when you shoot in jpeg. you are basically at the mercy of the jpeg engine that interprets the scene so for you pick the phone that suits your taste. some people prefer vibrant, some natural, some b&w, there is no right or wrong but just what they like the scene to look like. what each may want to pay more attention tho is how the sensor hold details and in low light how it performs. how else to do that but pixel peep? if you are just gonna use it for some whatsapp social media sharing (which most ofnusndo anyway), all these pics comparisons are moot

Being g6 user nearly a month, so far so good. Problem that i faced just a few days after buying was vibrator spoilt. And got it repair for few days. Other than that am happy with what g6 offering.

I dont fancy s8 due to the edge and the phone do look like plastic.

the phone is still too young so hard to judge problems at this stage. Remember in past LG phones, issues like bootloop and LCD image retention took months to appear

i would say just 2 very minor issues with the G6 are
- no notification LED
- gloss fingerprint sensor unlike the matte ones of the past, once smudges accumulate, the fingerprint reader's accuracy somewhat diminishes

for me as a camera user there is a 3rd minor issue where autofocus is pretty much broken on all 3rd party camera apps if you shoot in manual. LG's camera drivers always have some weird quirk here and there (in my old G4, all 3rd party apps couldnt change white balance)

Also I've seen a few reports of the camera lens being easily scratched too. Saw a thread on Xda. Apparently it's a coating on the glass, so just have to make sure to use a case or what not. Don't think I've seen anyone complain about that here though so probably not a huge deal. If it's like the HTC One M8, might be able to remove that coating anyway.

But yeah, like others mentioned, it's still about early to tell. But at least LG is still offering 2 years warranty. Haha.

The 2 year warranty is a good deal. Same as Huawei's P10+

Haha guess your luck plays a part too. My P10+ which I loved developed screen problems (which quite a number of people have faced) and intermittent reboot problems.

My G6 so far has been fine. It's become my daily driver and IMHO the best flagship presently. I replaced my p10+ with the S8+. I have to say I do not like the edge...never will. The camera is overrated. Colors are saturated and overexposed compared to the G6. I don't think it's worth the premium. My opinion, others may think otherwise.
