A little bit of theory is OK for me. But I can't handle too much details due to limited brain power.

I monitor my weight. When needed I will cut down the commonly known food that cause weight gain and low in nutrition (like sugar, bread, noodles, rice, biscuits). I will roughly monitor the amount. I set small targets like losing 0.5 kg in 7-10 days. I still eat ice cream, chocolate, roti prata or fried kuey tiao once in a while. Otherwise, there is no fun in controlling.

Obviously, I am not an ambitious person.. :ROFLMAO:

While you all talk about the science of it, what about the mental health aspect as well? Why do people binge eat? Due to hormones and biochemistry only? Depressed people eat more or eat less? What about eating disorders? Hormones and biochemistry?
You are right about this part. The hard basic (basic as in fundamental, n not easy) science of weight management isn't that hard to grasp, but what's often overlooked / ignored is the emotions regulating disordered eating (NOT eating disorder, 2 diff things). One can change behaviour but not address the emotional issues behind the food behaviour. Over time, things will just go back to square one. I lost about 18kg the past year through addressing the emotional issues behind disordered eating and the application of the usual basic sciences (for me I took the gut health and set point theory approach) behind weight management (mostly discussed here already).

Those keen in this topic of addressing mental health / emotional issues behind eating can look at the book "Food Therapy" by Pixie Turner.

10 days 0.5kg is 1.5kg a month or 18kg a year. That's very good loh.

I have also lost about 19kg in the last 4 months. The first 9kg was pretty fast in the first month or so.
I achieved my target if losing 18kg just around CNY.

After which I set target to lose another 5kg more. Much slower rate of weight loss now.

19kg in 4 months (or worst, 9kg in first month) u probably lost a gd 50%-50% mixture of fats and muscle mass. I'm 40 liao, can't afford to lose that much muscle mass, so I took it super slow and steady. In fact, my first month I only lost 1.7kg AFTER pooing some more. I lost 10% of my weight in about 6 months, then purposely stopped weighing for the next 10-12 weeks and ate more to let the body adapt to the new weight and hopefully deceive the set point mechanism. Then continue from there after the 10 weeks or so.

I have a weighing scale that gives me a few measurements. My goal is just to lose weight and hopefully not lose too much muscle mass by maintaining exercise.

my measurements today

21% body fat
51% skeletal muscle
18.4% subcutaneous fat
VFA score 8
Body water 57%
Protein 18%

I find that if I stop weighing it is very easy to gain weight again. The body wants to be in an anabolic state and it drives appetite and hunger. Discipline and psychology , change of habits is important with TRACKING.

Nah it's the opposite for me. During those months when I stopped tracking, I continued to lose weight n fats at about 1kg a month. I don't bother with those extra information other than weight from the scale. To monitor my progress ensuring it's fat loss and not muscle mass loss, I measure girths and skin fold from various sites of the body.

Interesting. Yeah it is different for different people. Guess depends on your work, level of activity, what your routine is like, food types and accessibility to snacks etc.

I have a corner stashed full of snack! Chips, cuttlefish, dorito chips, Takis, Wang Wang, Seaweed, Chocolate, Gummies, Pork and Beef Jerky, Salted Egg Yolk Fish skin, Dried Mango, Cashew nuts, Almonds, Pistachios, Peanuts, melon seeds, Sunflower seeds, Brazil nuts, Hazlenuts, Dried Cranberries, Raisins etc.

So need to be disciplined for me.

Whatever works lah. (y)

Need to have negative caloric balance lah.

Replace what you usually eat with things with less calories or no calories.

Exercise to burn calories is very hard. You can work out run or bike or row for 30min burn only how many calories ? Not even 1 can of coca cola.

But exercise helps build muscle and maintain muscle. Hence basal metabolic rate is maintained or increased.

Can try drinking Psyllium Husk. Metamucil. Soluble fiber. Good for bowels. Also prebiotic for gut biomes. Binds cholesterol. There is also a product PGX contains konjac root. Also similar mechanism

Yes. Need to monitor closely. Best to weigh in everyday, even though not much changes. My fat level is 24% (still too much fat).

Track .

Sometimes is water loss. Doesn't go down straight line or slope.

Easier as in which is easier for losing weight or which is easier to do?
Both.

If want to have overall lower calories in than out is easier to lower the in by eating less than to increase the out.

Exercise to burn more calories is more difficult.

You go see how many calories in a can of coca cola. And must run how many km to burn the same.

lol, i find it easier to exercise
I guess it is different for different people. But usually the overweight or obese have no stamina and not conditioned that's why hard for them to exercise.
