Channel 60 @160MHz will still run into heavy traffic on the lower 36-48 channels the moment your client and router actually decides to communicate at 160MHz.

160MHz really pointless for the majority of us who live in pigeon hole flats. Take the 3dB gain and stick to 80MHz instead. https://blogs.juniper.net/en-us/industry-solutions-and-trends/power-spectral-density

Indeed 160MHz may not be useful for many users in Singapore. But still I will not say it is pointless.

In my case, I am lucky. I live in a 4-room HDB flat with super congested 2.4GHz bands (even with -52dB and -53dB RSSI values from neighbours), but 5GHz bands are not bad. There is only one main interference on the 5GHz band which has RSI greater than -75dB and it is using CH108. The others all have the RSSI values below -83dB.

Nex time it will be a bit better with 6GHz band (WiFi 6E and WiFi 7) since there will be more channels you can use to gain 160MHz channel width and you may even be able to use 320MHz channel width in the future.

And hopefuly Singapore government will allocate more 6GHz bands for use with WiFi in the future, now only the lower segment of the 6 GHz band (i.e., 5,925 – 6,425 MHz).

Thanks for the suggestion. I was connected on wifi and did the test earlier. I connect using the lan cable direct to my router and i seem to get better speeds now. Is this acceptable? https://m1network.speedtestcustom.com/result/03e03130-6b64-11ee-a4af-adcdc3deeb3c
this one is your browser/PC issue, I am having the same speedtest issue like yours with my older desktop and another slower NUC (on SpeedTest.net).

I did a speedtest with a brand new Windows 11 Pro miniPC on a new browser and I could get full 500Mbps from M1 connecting with Wifi6 backhaul wirelessly.

ONT --> Router --> AP --> wireless backhaul --> node --> new PC at 500Mbps u/d

update: most probably is browser issue, I just did a speedtest with a legacy firefox browser on my older desktop and I could get the full 500Mbps from your speedtest URL and I only get the same download value as you on a Edge browser. https://m1network.speedtestcustom.com/result/15cbf170-6bd4-11ee-9cd5-a1bcb6b4fce8

add on: but then I realised my Edge browser (portable version) is offloaded from another NAS machine so not sure if it affects up/dl speed.

What kind of Chinese apps and server are you using?

None of the local consumer ISPs are good for connections to China. For example, when it comes to Taobao, SingTel may be slightly better than others and VQ/MR may be a bit worse than others. But it is not recommended to go with SingTel due to the use of SingTel ONR.

Switching to M1 will likely not sort out your issue. The real solution may be to subscribe to going-into-China VPNs like Transocks or Malus VPN. Or even use VPS (cloud) providers which have good connections to China. This may not be cheap though.

usually i'll be using toabao and douyin. plus some gaming on china server. i use viewqwest with transocks vpn, getting 200+ ping to china gaming server.

is m1 connection to transocks vpn decent?

Maybe M1 users can help to chime in to answer.

My gut feeling is that it will be similar across ISPs once you use Transocks.

One of my own test results for reference: I used AJS which I believe is better than Transocks but it is not as easy to subscribe as you may need a mobile number from mainland China. I am using Singtel myself.

DFS channel any1? For my case, i'm still lucky until now (fingers crossed) that my neighbors have not discover new love/spamming 160MHz yet 😅

No use, there are only 2 available 160MHz channels on 5GHz and both of them overlap into the common low and high channels that all routers will use.

I use DFS/weather radar channels 116-128 on 80MHz channel width. No consumer router will auto switch into that range. Heck, some routers don’t even allow that range to be selected.

Edit: 100-128 is probably your best bet if you chose to use 120MHz as not many ISP routers will use 52-64.

5Ghz-2 Aimesh on DFS channel

PHY link speed is pretty consistent above 3Gbps.

To what client? PHY rate sometimes crashes when a real load is put on it. up to 4804Mbps is not out of reach with just 4T4R 160MHz 802.11ax though, not even 6GHz is needed.

it a twin pack of Asus AX92U connecting as Aimesh wireless backhaul at 5Ghz-2, so far didn't try to overload it as the ethernet ports are only 1Gbps link but running stable with latest Gnuton firmware (never had any disconnections). Out of the box settings, didn't try to tweak anything since it is running fine.

Hi Gurus,

Newbie here. im currently out of contract and just did a relocation with M1 on 500 mbps . just surfing net or streaming movies, about 4 of us and happy with M1.
I would like to recontract with m1 soon with the same plan. my router at living room end EA8300 and dead zones and bad connection and slow speed occur when i close the doors or move to the end of the room in X. I attach my floor plan , est 1300-1400 with 3 bed rooms. My walls might be specially thick as its a old place hence once door are closed, DC and very low speed can occur.
Any suggestions of a easy set up as wireless with good equipment/product customer support too. Thank you.

Hi all, planning to sign up m1 for my father who's currently out of contract with singtel.

Does anyone know if I should cancel singtel first or can he just apply from m1 directly?

Thank you!

It is recommended to only cancel existing when changing isps. Sometimes, there could be delays or issues during the provisioning of the new line. Unless, you do not mind the potential risk of having no internet for a few days, you may go ahead to cancel existing first

If having wireless interference issues, it is about placement of the wireless routers/APs/Mesh Units. It is always recommended to use wired to connect to each of them, otherwise, the APs or Mesh Units would meed to be in the line of sight with minimal interference.

changing to a better product may help a little, but it is also not a guarantee it would help.

So there is no LAN ports in the rooms, right? What is your budegt?

The placement of the main router is also important. It is better to have the main wireless router in the central location if possible. The current placement is rather poor. If possible, try to relocate it near to the Master room, so that at least you will have good WiFi in the master room.

It will be good to watch the few videos mentioned in the first post of the pinned thread of this forum section to know more about the ABCs of Home Networking.
https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/threads/understanding-the-abcs-of-home-networking.6653421/

There is a link to the following discussion in the above pinned thread, for those who do not have LAN ports in the rooms.
https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/...flats-without-lan-ports-in-the-rooms.6646066/

Copy from the above post (partial copy).
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

What about older HDB flats without LAN ports in the rooms?

Summary

1) All in all, the best is still to lay out Ethernet cables to the rooms (living room and the bed rooms). It may not be necessary to have LAN ports in every room, rather selected location may be good enough.

2) For some older flats, the ONT is in a relatively central location and they may be served by just one powerful wireless router if the expectation is not too high. This is especially true with powerful wireless router like Asus RT-AX86U Pro, GT-AX6000, GT-AX11000 Pro, etc.

3) Using Moca adapters are another good option if Cable infrastructure is available at home.
https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/threads/moca-network-setup-ethernet-over-tv-cable.5675388/

4) If the above two are not an option, then triband mesh solution can be a good one. Usually two pack or three pack will be good enough for the flat. Triband AX routers are still pretty expensive too, eg, Netgear Orbi RBK752/753, RBK852/853, Asus Zenwifi XT8 and Linksys Velop MX4200. Cheap option includes TP-Link Deco X68 and X75.

Dual band mesh solution may be used if the placement of the second node (and/or the 3rd node) can be accommodated.

No matter it is triband or dual band mesh solution, the mesh node needs to have good connection to the main node. The best is to have line of sight. If not, at most one wall in between.

More info about mesh router selection.
