Ok, just deleted the contacts of my China relatives from my cordless phone and reset my modem.

Re-key in the China contacts and dial out was smooth without issue using the individual buttons and by selecting the name under contacts.

However, when I assigned the China contacts into the speedial buttons the issue appears again i.e. the voice playback of StarHub message on subscribing to IDD service and blah blah blah.

M1 said they'll investigate and inform me on Saturday.

Then the speed dial thing might be a phone set issue? Try uh.. asking how does it exactly function? cause judging by this it could be the mechanics of that speed dial causing a malfunction. Am guessing that it isn't just dialing the numbers instantly by storing in memory..

I've spoken to the phone distributor and they said will arrange for a technician to come over to my place to check it out. I've requested the distributor to get the technician to bring a new cordless phone for test as a verification.

To call China you need to dial 021 8 xxxxxxxxxxxx for M1. I suspect speed dialling might have skipped the number '2' and dial 018 instead connecting it StarHub. Just a hunch....you know

Well.....just have to wait

Try putting a 0 or 00 in front of the 8 like 021 08 xxxxxxxxxx. No harm trying.

Question here is. the infrastructure they mentioned, are they like saying that its eitherly different from OpenNet's backbone. And as far as we know, no matter what we rely on Opennet's backbone.. so this "infrastructure" in question, what exactly is it referring to?

lazy to go into details and get technical so i am just going to explain briefly.

originally, all fibre cable are owned and laid by OpenNet.

each of these OpenNet-owned fibre cable are then connected onto a internet exchange point managed by OpenNet (like the one from ST which recently caught fire). in the case of OpenNet, it actually leased space from ST's internet exchange point instead of building its own building.

but then it is still not enough to give you internet. from the exchange, each of the cable needs to be connected to a router/switch (of sort) which is connected to the world wide web.

the "OpenNet capacity issue" is not because OpenNet is not laying the fibre cables fast enough, it is because it does not have enough "router/switch" to connect each of the fibre cable to the internet.

so what ST is now doing is to laid its own fibre cables which are then connected to its own internet exchange point, which are then connected to its own internet "router/switch".

and given how much money ST has and how big ST is, it should have a lot of spare "router/switch", and thus have no problem connecting a customer to the internet within 7 days.

the actual scenario is of course a lot more complicated but this should be enough.

if anyone wants to correct or improve my explanation, please feel free to do so.

please test using LAN cables.

undesirable wifi performance is usually due to your OWN wifi equipment.

60 to 70 mbps is already consider very high speed for n wireless mode . You need ac 5ghz wireless to receive above 100mbps .
