If it is just net surfing, i wouldn't even buy a mac. An iPad will be more than sufficient. Even a cheap $200+ android tablet will be ok. I use a mac because i want to be able to do real work and multimedia edit while enjoying the Apple ecosystem.

A mac mini is still convenient to use external storage as it is a desktop, but for those on macbooks and always on the go, carrying an external storage can be tedious.
Just surf the net? Get a cheap iPad.

Yea but that’s you right.

Should an iPad be better of a use case than a mini when it comes to surfing the net only? Maybe.

but that’s not the point. Who’s to dictate what the actual use case of a mini is for?

but the issue here is more of should a mini be chosen, why is 256gb nonsense for the use case?
I find this hilarious.
Can elaborate why that’s hilarious? Because of that this post is quite meaningless.

The thing is to go into credit card debt for something they rarely or dun use at all. Nowadays so easy to spend and spend with credits or bnpl. Haha.
Yea but just don’t get the mindset of the people who seems to know what other people use cases are and seem to assume others should follow their use case

256GB is nonsense.

512GB is barely scraping.

1TB is good starting point.

2TB is very comfortable.

4TB and 8TB is overkill, unless one works with terabytes of raw video files.
In my opinion, 256GB on the Mac Mini M4 is ok, though I would prefer a base of at least 512GB. What is ridiculous is the upgrade cost from 256GB to 512GB @ SGD 300 bucks. 256GB more @ 300 bucks is daylight robbery in today's context!

That's why just get the base model with 256gb and add your own external hard drive.

I'm a new user of M4 Mac mini who just upgraded from M1 Mini. Didn't regret my decision to upgrade as it's much smoother overall in terms of performance. HDMI 2.1 is a nice upgrade as I can now use VRR on my monitor. I'm a casual user who uses it for web surfing and editing my photos. 256GB is good enough for my usage. Installed Lightroom, Microsoft apps, some games and I'm still left with 110Gb. My photos are all stored on my external HDD.

Why would one buy mac mini when mac studio is coming out this year?

Many who bought macs are just casual user. Mac mini with the minimum specs just for browsing and general.

Power users go for those mid to high end range like the studio.

Looking forward to the new Mac Studio with M4 Ultra. After its announcement, will start saving up. Don't want to max out the credit card.
