Won't be adding back an optical drive. A major marketing strategy.

To be frank, there is no such thing as MAC support for external HDD should they comply with the necessary interface of either USB 2.0/3.0, Firewire 400/800, Thunderbolt, ESATA(require external ExpressCards)

All you need to do is ensure the filesystem is cross platform recognisable between Mac and Windows. For different versions conbination of Mac and Windows, the common denominator is different. But you can be quite safe if you stick with FAT32. This is the lowest denominator of filesystem that is interoperable between Mac and Windows.

Should you decide to use a NTFS driver which is freely available or if you want more performance for a commercial product, you can upgrade the common filesystem denominator to NTFS.

if both your Mac and Windows support ExtFS, you can choose this as your filesystem for your external drive too.

MBA trackpad and keyboard not functioning. Now I'm stuck at the login page. First time it happen. Reboot. On and off lots of time still no use. Use USB mouse and keyboard also no use. Any solutions?

Managed to bypass the login page using USB mouse and keyboard. Realize one of the port not working. Sending it for repairs later. Lucky I bought AppleCare.

Even for HFS+ you still need to perform defragmentation if you are using hard disk. There will be some benefits by placing the data blocks in the hot zone. Use the iDefrag if you are interested.

If you are using SSD, don't do it.

What about disk clean up? Like cleaning up your cache or temporary user file.

Generally the OS do hold some cache of various services within the disk, however, they are kept in order and purged by the OS automatically.

Disk clean up is always user's job. OS don't do it for you automatically. Temporary user files are also clean up periodically. There is no need for user to explicitly do it unless you wish to do it yourself for some specialize use cases.

For normal user, just use the Mac OS X as-is, there is nothing manual about it. As you use more and read more, you will know more depth about the system and you can decide if you want to manually tweak some stuffs yourself.

I think you are getting an expensive equipment doing very little. Maybe you want to try this instead ? Much cheaper and can do exactly the same thing The Next Unit of Computing (NUC)

XMBC is all you need.

I just looked up on this Intel NUC thing. It seems to lack stuff such as ram, wifi, hdd, OS etc. Reviews don't seem that good. Intel i3-ULV seems a bit underpowered as well. I would prefer to get a single package if possible. I guess an alternative choice is a self built ITX system, but i doubt it will much cheaper than a mac mini package.

You just said you want a media server, running XMBC is more than enough. Displaying 1080p does not need a lot of computing power, just GPU acceleration on suitable file format. XMBC include a linux OS and hence doesn't need more. How much RAM do you need to host a media server ? WiFi or ethernet is up to you, how much would a USB WiFi adaptor cost if you need one ? Normally if you would like to a media server with tons of video files, it's better you use external storage instead of a built in one. Video files are large and as they grow in numbers, you will need larger space, so you should probably pair this baby with a NAS. If you don't have one, go get one.

Of course, your choice is the ultimatum, I am just making a recommendation based on what I see.

Hi for iMac say if it is still under warranty and it spoil, do we have to bring it down or they will send technician to your home to repair?

under warranty n spoil? how big? quickly go buy yr applecare to activate full 3yrs if u want to use it max.
if u have applecare, they will go to yr house
depending on what u wana repair, it is most probably repair onsite (unless change HDD or motherboard etc big issues)
otherwise they will go yr house n pick up the machine, service liao n set up at yr place again. this is from an experienced user who have > 5x of house visits from the technicians


if not, u have to bring it down to service center without applecare. thats why i bought the applecare because machine 27"
