Hello guys, I have a problem with my Macbook Pro 2011. I tried to on my macbook multiple times but it doesn't seem to load and the page will be stuck at the home page with apple logo and the bar loading halfway only. I called Apple Technical Support to run through some tests on safe mode with them and they concluded that there may be some problem with the hdd which requires replacement.

May I know where I can get it repair for cheap? I have been reading up and it seems that PC Clinic seems to be quite popular. I have zero knowledge on IT related stuffs cries. And thank you in advance!

Can the latest macbook pro graphics card be replaced with a better graphics card?

I heard we can remove the casing and replace it ourselves. Any recommendations for such services?

Anyone bought refurbished macs from OWC before?
The prices look quite good after conversion + shipping + GST.

Just want to hear if anyone tried it before cos their Mac pros look tempting.

If it is just a HDD problem, it would be the simplest to rectify. Unscrew about 10 plus screws and that is it. Everything back to norm.
No point paying through your nose to get it repaired from the shops.

Hey guys, I just up my MBPr 13inch 2015 to the 15inch mid 2015 due to needed size. My model is the one with 2.5ghz and AMD card.

I wish to ask anyone here using same specs as mine because I need to clarify on my battery life before contacting Apple for a fix. I know it's a quad core and bigger screen so cannot compare to my previous 13inch.

But my 15inch gets quite warm, around 60c CPU temps with just light usage, normal operations + Safari Tabs, no other stuffs are actually running, battery status states that only Safari are using significant amount of power draws. Brightness at around 70%.

We are doing this in a relatively cold air con room, around 23c.

So here's my question, I am only able to get only around 5 hours on this kind of usage, I can see my battery % dropping quite often, is this normal for 15inch Quad core at 2.5ghz and AMD card? I always believe Apple Macbook have good battery life compared to other windows but seems like getting almost the same. Also, it gets so much warmer compared to my friend's 13inch while we are doing the same Light Tasks, his 13inch is very cold to touch.

Thanks! :s12::s12::s12:

whether normal or not, you bring down to apple service centre, they will run their diagnostic software on your computer and a detailed report will generate out right in front of your eyes.

no matter how you argue with them, as long as the battery diagnostic reports it as normal, then they will show you the exact capacity left on your battery. again, battery consumed is not within the warranty boundary, you gotta replace it yourself at a charge. if somehow the battery is reported as faulty or critical, replacement is free under warranty.

i went service centre before of similar issue, and they told me that no matter how you argue or present the facts, apple only recognise the report from their software, which is kinda impeccable. I was like okay, apple is the boss.

Aiyo, like that I buy Applecare for what! joking :D

Actually i don't really expect the battery life to be as good as my previous 13inch, but I cannot really find any user reviews with same specs as mine to determine the actual real battery life.

Your model also with the discrete GPU? How's your battery life? I mean if 5 hours is normal for such specs, then I know I'm okay, altho the advertised was 9 hours haha.

By the way any apps I can use to show which GPU is currently in use?

do u have flash installed?

Yup I got it installed, does it eat a lot of battery? I hope it won't activate my discrete GPU as default with Flash... I'm using Safari only tho.

PS: Everytime after I charged it too 100%, the estimated time left will be around 3.50+ hours only... And then after some usage, it will go up to 4.33 hours. I can't seem to get it more... By the way I'm using Turbo Switcher to keep the clock speed at 2.5ghz max, no Turbo Boosting

Hmm I see, okay thanks. Actually I just did a clean install, total cleaning from downloading using Internet Recovery to Yosemite instead of El Capitan. Let me try monitor bit.... :s22::s22::s22:

You need both iOS 9 to be installed on your phone and El Capitan to be installed on your Mac to enable the iCloud sync for new Notes app to work.

Have both iOS 9 and Ei Capitian but i realised notes only sync via Wifi

Today did a clean install, reset the PRAM and reset the SMC, did a calibration, estimation at 100% will see fluctuating at 6 hours to 9 hours, haven't test real world usage tho, gonna do it tomorrow.

Since I'm using Parallels 11 with Windows 10, I noticed that it always switch to AMD Gpu and not use iGPU, anyway to use iGPU with Parallels? Thanks!
