rather than getting a pirated copy right? how many people here really have a whole bunch of family members using Mac?

i am sure Apple knows about it and rather than breeding piracy, and also to reach out to more consumers, this is the way to issue the license.

so what would say about using cousin's or friend's student ID to buy 'education' or 'academic' priced software and hardware?

looking at the price, i may just share with my brother-in-law - that's if he wants. 198 isn't that expensive. but hell, just 138 bucks with free shipping, i can just get off the store anytime but just that if there's an avenue for a little saving - i wouldn't mind

You twisted logic is still piracy. Just because you paid for it (by "sharing") does not mean you did not commit a crime. The license is for one household use between (and up to) 5 members of a family.

If anything, you are stupid to share the cost of something you are not legally entitled to use!

Cheating by using your cousin's status as a student or educator to buy Apple products at lower prices has NOTHING to do with piracy. That's just being dishonest.

Before I did the repair with AppleJack, I tried copying huge files and with GetInfo window open. When the Disk Full message appears, the available space went straight to Zero for a few seconds and back to 200+GB available. Very weird.

Oh, the delayed report is quite normal. Panic only when you get that message right after boot up and you know your start-up disk is not nearly full at all.

The family pack clause typically reads:

Family Pack Software License Agreement allows you to install and use one copy of the Apple Software on up to a maximum of five (5) Apple-labeled computers at a time as long as those computers are located in the same household and used by persons who occupy that same household. By "household" we mean a person or persons sharing the same housing unit such as a home, apartment, mobile home or condominium. This license does not extend to students who reside at a separate on-campus location or to business or commercial users.

As such, circumvention of the license agreement is piracy.

Moving iTunes Library to new mac

Hi, a first time poster here!

I'm buying my first macbook and I need to know how to transfer my itunes songs, playlists, podcasts and applications from Windows XP to it while preserving my ratings, play count, date added etc..

My iTunes music currently 'lives' on an external hdd but my iTunes library is on my C drive, meaning that iTunes plays the music off the hdd but i think all the metadata information's stored in the iTunes folder on the C drive... makes sense?

I'd like to copy the music into my new mac (so I don't need to plug my hdd into it to play songs anymore)... And if possible, I'd like to keep on organizing my music the way I choose,instead of having iTunes manage my music for me. But as long as my music can migrate properly, this isn't too big of an issue...

I have googled this and all the info I've read doesn't deal with my situation exactly. For eg, they'd give advice on how to move music from my music folder (when mine's on ext hdd), or how to plug existing hdd into mac and use it to play iTunes music (I want to keep my music in my macbook).

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Copy the whole folder over, it should do the job as long as the xml sheet stays intact.

From what I've read, the xml file stores the file path information so iTunes knows where to get the songs. But when I transfer to e mac, the file paths will change cuz osx doesn't use the same folder naming system as windows.. So i don't think that method will work... but if all else fails I'll give it a try..Thanks anyhow!

Ripping to cds isn't an option, I have way too many songs... Should I consolidate my library, then copy to the iTunes folder in osx?

Apple should really provide a painless method of doing this. Most windows users are first exposed to apple software through buying ipods and using itunes.. but when they want to switch completely... Apple fails them..

That would be the best way. Consolidate your folder and then copy over the consolidated folder.

i keep thinking to myself, if i have already bought the original office for mac and wins. then i should be thanking that this (iLife 09) is so affordable liao - eh, i support original ok? hahaha... that's why, i have a few walls worth of music CDs and DVDs, at the expense of my wallet

It worked the same for me, as I used to host my music files on ex hdd... only to find it a hassle when I have to lug another ex hdd around... :X

Hi all,

Recently installed XP SP2 on boot-camp. It works fine and has no problems so far. I then upgraded my XP SP2 with Vista Ultimate 32-bit.

However, I seem to get the blue screen of death often on Vista. The blue screen shows for a few seconds and the OS restarts. From whatever I could read, it seems that my display driver tried to restart and failed or something like that.

The moment, I log on to Vista, my MBP hangs and the MBP fans slowly start powering up till it is at full speed. After which it slows down and then I get the blue screen.

All my CD/DVD are originals with product keys.

Just get a PC. That should solve all your problems. One of the reasons why people buy Macs is so that they no longer need to worry about drivers being incompatible, blue screens, etc. But people just keep looking for such problems.
