Yup, look up Firewire Target Mode... if both your Macs have a Firewire port.

Just get a PC. That should solve all your problems. One of the reasons why people buy Macs is so that they no longer need to worry about drivers being incompatible, blue screens, etc. But people just keep looking for such problems.

relax mate. he/she is just speaking his/her mind. we are all entitle to our own opinion. in SG we are already quite restricted on freedom of speech (read: former speaker corner). in this community we should able to express (or share) our opinions, without those restriction - of course not to discuss anything that's illegal lah.

but then again, i am intending to get a Windows-based laptop for what will need to do on Windows. Windows-based lappy are so cheap these days. sinful

Target disk mode requires both mac to have FW ports.
Perhaps it might be easier for you to back up files manually, then install the apps.

I wanted to replace the Leopard's login screen background so googled it :

- backup /System/Library/CoreServices/DefaultDesktop.jpg
- replaced it with my new background screen
- reboot and got a blank blue screen instead, checked /System/Library/CoreServices/DefaultDesktop.jpg in preview and it did contain the new image
- so I restored the old image I backed-up but still got a blank blue screen

anybody knows how to do it properly

You will have to repair permissions once you change the background file - this allows Leopard to re-assign the proper permissions/ownership of the file.

Yes I did, I think I did. I just followed the printed instructions from Apple. It says after upgrading XP that you re-install the drivers from the Mac OS X dvd. That's what I did, but unfortunately it seems to hang the moment I'm on Vista.

Oh well, not that I'm dying for Vista. But thanks anyhow, will be using XP.

Sorry, I'm totally clueless and can't give any further suggestion. Anyone else can help?

I found out the problem. It was uTorrent that caused the error and most likely a corrupted torrent too.

My new question:

When iTunes copy mp3 files into its library, and when I play the mp3 files, all of the songs skipped often. I tried deleting and copy to library again but still skips. The files are in my external HDD formatted with NTFS, and when I play the files directly from the HDD, no problem.

Your external harddisk is slow.

I have no idea if it's NTFS format related; the bottle-neck could be at the usb connectiion. You're not using USB 1.0 right?

Okay, back to the topic

I have been using my imac for the past 2 weeks - did partition my 500G HDD with boot camp but never had the need to install winxp yet - how's that? hahah

Of course, I have a PC next to my imac - shhh

Anyway, my next move is probably to remove the empty boot camp partition - any quick way to do it without me ploughing through the manual?
