since the MBP is new and theres no personal data on it to port over... can skip the cloning process...

replace original HDD with new HDD, and run throught the installation process with installation disc...

macbook pro hang

sorry i'm new to mac and i have a qn..

just now i opened system profiler but the icon keeps jumping and it didnt open. so i tried to restart the mac. after a while, a prompter poped up to ask if i wanna force quit the programme. so i force quit and the mac restarted.

after the mac restarted, only the bg appeared and nothing else. the mouse pointer can still move. i pressed the power switch and the shut down option came up but when i click, nothing happened. it happened a few times until i pressed the power switch for a while until the mac shut down..

this is the first time this happened and i got my macbook pro 13" just 2 weeks ago..is this a serious problem?

hi, can someone enlighten me abt the differences for the graphic card performance on a mbp 15" 2.66Ghz model which has a NVIDIA GeForce 9400M + 9600M GT with 256MB and the 2.88Ghz model which has a NVIDIA GeForce 9400M + 9600M GT with 512MB.

1) Office 2008 for Mac is approx $260, and there's no outlook for Mac - it's Entourage.

2) DisplayPort is an open standard. As such, people are free to make their own adaptors. There's already a Mini-DisplayPort to HDMI convertor out in the market - just google for it.

3) Yes, of course. Dependent on the codecs available, though I don't really like Real as much even on Windows. There is a WM codec pack free.

4) The cons depend on what you want to do with your machine in the first place. Games are slower and/or nearly nonexistent without Boot Camp. For most people, games aside, the Mac works extremely well. We just game on another platform like the PS3, Wii, PSP, iPhone, Xbox, another dedicated gaming PC etc.

1. Apple Online Store - Singapore
2. Snow Leopard released mid Sept 2009. To update the OS if you buy a new Mac now, you need to pay $18 for the upgrade kit which will be sent to your residence once Snow Leopard is out.
3. Depends, Apple products are price controlled so even at COMEX I wouldn't expect to see much price difference. More freebies (that you may not need) though.

Performance takes a pretty big hit if your VM exists on an external hard drive, unless it's connected via Firewire800 or eSATA...

USB isn't designed for sustained writes, it's designed for burst data. Which means it starts off fast but starts to slow down and stay slow.

oh.. I mean that the MS office will be installed in portable HDD while VM Fusion/Parallel is installed in the mac.. the MS office programs will work slow too? Sorry for the confusion..

I encountered that when i used VLC player to play Transformer movie yesterday.. I download another 3rd party video player & it works fine.. no lagging or jerky.. sometimes is also due to the bitrate when u convert the movie..

i believe generally its around 10% increase in frame rates in general, dont have the link at the moment, but u can try to google for it
it was about 69 frames to 77 frames or smth for a game (may have been quake 4)
this is due to both the extra mem, and probably more to do with the higher clock speed

so it's nt much diff between the 256mb model and the 512mb one? if so den i might just get the 256mb one.
