hi guys, i changed my hdd for my new macbook pro and got someone to partition the hdd into 3 segments...how can i rename the 3 partitions of the hdd?
in addition, am i correct to say that if i want to install win7 via parallels, win7 should be installed in a different partition as of one for the OSX?
thx
xllms
hi...I am also facing with the osx upon re-installing the osx into the new hdd...i cant do updates anymore, there are issues with the iphoto, etc (All programs close unexpectedly)...can someone advise me on this matter or someone can advise me on how i can redo the installation (re-installation of the osx)
thx
Do a reinstallation, recreate the partitions yourself using Disk Utility when you boot up using the installation disc (it's under Utilities>Disk Utility). You can then rename your partitions however you like at the same time. No you don't need to create a new partition. However, if you are thinking of using Boot Camp, you can install Windows using Boot Camp (and a separate partition), and use it together with Parallels.
thanks n0d3...btw, if I have already installed OS-X in the "untitled" hdd partition, how can i rename it in disk utilities?
thx
Rename it after you boot into OS X. It's the same as renaming any other item, select press enter.
i dont seem to be able to rename any of the partitions in disk utilities.
I said AFTER you boot into OS X, you can't rename in Disk Utility like I previously said, that's why in the latest reply, I said, AFTER you boot into OS X.
pardon me...am quite lost here...at the moment i am already in OS X...but i still cant rename the partition in disk utilities
Like I said, you CAN'T name it in Disk Utility regardless of whether you're booted up using the Installation Disc or in OS X.
In OS X, just rename it as with how you name other files, select the item in Finder, press Enter and rename. As for NTFS partitions, I believe you'll need to reboot into Windows in order to rename it.
xllms,
1) log into MAC OS X
2) you should be able to see the partition on your desktop.
3) SINGLE click on the partition icon(hard disk icon)
4) press ENTER on your keyboard to rename
5) type in desired name
6) hit ENTER again.
