GOSH, we already mentioned that it ONLY shows up when you have 2 or more disks. It isn't a bug/problem.

It's already answered here, and to answer why it happened with your OLD HDD, no one can give you a sure answer. It's been this way since 10.4.X-ish. I can assure you it doesn't appear by default unless you have a drive, CD/DVD, thumbdrive, partition on your HDD. If you would like it to appear, i guess you can always leave a thumbdrive plugged in 24/7 or create a Boot Camp partition.

I can't believe you actually clean installed OS X twice? I think by now you should have realised that after two clean installs, it is the correct/default function not to display "Startup Disk" if only one volume exists.

Hi everyone, just got myself a macbook pro 15" and am having a few questions regarding this new powerhouse.

1) Does the Microsoft Office 2008 for mac only come in license of three? Needed the compatibility of the MS Office for studies and work.

2) Have always been a windows user so therefore have two copies of Windows XP which are no longer in use since both the machines are gone. As such, can i use anyone of the licenses for installing of Windows XP? any licensing issues?

3) Am also having problems syncing my singnet mail into my mac "mail". any help on this?

4) any accessories or peripherals that are considered essential?

Keyboard protector if you don't not want your keyboard to turn shiny, and a palmguard if you have sweaty palms, it corrodes the alum.

iTunes' device support is pretty much limited to just the iPod/iPhone range at the moment in terms of current support.

As for your WM Smartphone, try Googling to see what other users are saying. Pretty much depends on your model.

Sorry, i was asking if the itunes would work with other MP3 Players. cos it seems that ipods may not be the best sound player out of the box.

Seems like not much choice then~ Am using HTC Diamond. Will check out in the other forums.

Btw, regarding the Microsoft Office for mac:
1) The student and home edition is applicable for home users hor? any complications? Any reccomendations for the place to purchase mac office? Tried getting it from some sources but was told that they sell single licenses primarily to new MBP purchases. As i bought mine from epicentre, i wasn't allowed to buy from them... Hmmm

2) Anyone got experiences with entourage and WM devices?

I think for WM devices you'll need to check if iSync supports it, if not then you'll be left with mainly these two plugins:

hi guys, ive had a macbook pro for just 8 weeks, and now my battery life ( max charge its able to hold) is 92% of its original capacity.
is this normal? cuz my friend bought it earlier than me and its still 101% for his.
Do i need to recalibrate, or anything like that? And i realised that sometimes when i let the battery bar see red, the maximum capacity drops permanently by a few percentages. Is this normal? Im only on 25 charge cycles.
25 charge cycles and 92% of total.

It improves over time, if in doubt just recalibrate.

2. currently i'm using iTune to play my songs. I realised that iTune actually duplicate a copy of it and put inside the iTune folder with m4a format and some with mp3 format (i wonder why). Thus I will have 2 copies of the songs in my HDD. Can I stop iTune from doing tihs or not?
Or what does you all do? Just copy all ur music files into that folder?

You should really check out the preferences in iTunes at least once.

You can easily rip CDs with whatever bitrate/format you want, just go to iTunes preferences. With regard to your last "problem", check out the "Advanced" pane in iTunes preferences.

Ever tried to use Google before?

Windows can't see HFS disks.

You can either fire up Disk Management to format it in Windows or use Disk Utility to format it to MS-DOS (FAT32) then bring it over back to Windows then format it to NTFS. And like someone mentioned, NTFS-3G is not a format, NTFS is. And don't ever use case sensitive for HFS (Mac OS Extended).

is the seethru case a polycarbonate one? something like a shell? if so the person at eserve told me not to get it. she said tht tht one is not a vacuum, hence will have dust, dust will bua ur thing, then it 'll scratch it even more. then she also said that since tht is a plastic, it'l decolorise ( like white plastic turning yellow over time) then it'll cause the alum to change color, somehow.
