Not immediately. You will be directed to a panel of Utilities.

To either restore from Time Machine, Reinstall OS X, Get Help Online and Disk Utility.app.

Use Disk Utility.app and attempt repair. If fail, attempt savage data and prepare new HD.

Alright. So

1. Enter Internet Recover > Disk Utility.app
2. Attempt repair
3. If fail, remove physical hard drive and backup to another computer

Correct?

Pardon the noob questions. I do not have backups of some of the data and i really need to salvage it.

This is what I'm getting in Internet Recovery's Disk Utility :/

I guess my hard drive has completely died?

After i install the new hard drive, do you reckon i can connect the old one to another Mac to get its data?

You should try the HD externally on another Mac, or internally via Target Disk Mode.

Installation will depend on the model of your Mac.

Whether you have a copy of the OS installer, or if you need to retrieve via Recovery.

Just did some reading on that, it'll allow me to boot/run my Macbook as an (external hard drive) on another 'host' Macbook and salvage the files right?

All these should work, provided my hard disk isn't physically damaged right? Because the last thing that happen was that my laptop froze and had to do a force shut down.

Yes. You'll need another Mac as your HD is formatted to Mac OS Extended / HFS+.

If not, attempt target disk mode.

Provided if the drive is in condition for host to read/write.

Otherwise, yes your drive is dead.

After installing the SSD and get a fresh installation of OSX, twitter is missing from the MBP's notification. Any can help with steps to get it back into the notification?

Tried it with a FIREWIRE with another Macbook.

It can't be detected by the other host Macbook. Seems like the hard drive is confirmed to be dead :/

Hi all,

I have a faulty trackpad for my mbp 13inch 2009 version, can anyone roughly tell me the price and where to repair? The battery is also faulty, like maximum can last an hour only, so if changing the battery is within my budget, i will change also!

Thanks guys!

I have speaker issues on a MacBook White 6,1. The audio output is distorted from all sources i've tried thus far (YouTube thru Safari, Chrome, FireFox, Spotify, iTunes, the sound prompts from OS X). The 3.5mm jack works perfectly fine though. Anyone able to help? I don't think its a speaker issue as it was working fine one day and the next morning (left the laptop on my desk overnight, not charging), it was distorted badly. Have Googled and tried all the prescribed solutions (disk repair, restarting using command+shift+p+r etc), but none have worked. Thanks!

No difference. I'm using X-Minis for now, but i'd still like to get the onboard speakers working properly if possible. Seriously don't think its a hardware issue; it may be a 5 year old Mac but it was only recently revived out of cold storage. Add that to the fact that it wasn't banged around and that the change was sudden and abrupt one day to the next. Thanks!

What's your Mac's hardware?
have you check its compatibility with Mavericks on Apple's website?

Mine is MacBook white core 2 duo. Should be compatible. But I need to find a way to up grade to 10.6.8 or later. Any solutions? Thanks

To install Mavericks, you need one of these Macs:

iMac (Mid-2007 or later)
MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, Late 2008), (13-inch, Early 2009 or later)
MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later),
MacBook Pro (15-inch or 17-inch, Mid/Late 2007 or later)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or later)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or later)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or later)
Xserve (Early 2009)
Your Mac also needs:

OS X Mountain Lion, Lion, or Snow Leopard v10.6.8 already installed
2 GB or more of memory
8 GB or more of available space

Make sure you have more than 2GB of RAM. Otherwise, it will be painfully slow.
