safari has been lagging, command + T and typing in the web address bar results in choppiness.

Previously running on Yosemite stock (non beta / out of the box from new purchase) and latest OS X beta now, same issue!

MacBook Pro mid 2014!

I plan to buy MBAir, however I read that support for Windows 7 64 bit is removed in the latest Bootcamp for the 2015 models. Removing support does not mean cannot install right? I look at the comments and most people say it is some trackpad driver not done. How big is the impact?

As I do not use Mac, so I dunno much; I know there is Parallel and VMware. But are these running as a form of VM on top of OSX or a native hypervisor? I am mainly concerned with performance. My needs are just office productivity. Unfortunately, I need to keep Windows 7 due to office requirements (e.g VPN and some other custom apps) and we have not moved to Windows 8 yet.

Office on W7/64 runs just fine inside Parallels, as good as native on my 2013 Air. Even Matlab runs fine with just a slight lag.

I don't bother with screen protectors and keyboard protector. Let your screen be free

What?..

You're mixing up the wrong models

The new MacBook runs on Intel Core M which is a very power efficient chip which comes at a cost - performance

The MacBook Air got refreshed this year with better processors and better flash storage compared to the 2014 model.

my nephew is joining nus in a few months time, and he is thinking of getting a MBP through the school.
is it true that getting from nus automatically qualifies it for a 3yr warranty? would it then be a good deal buying from nus, factoring in the price?

I'll leave it to you to find out if buying from NUS is justifiable.

The price they quoted you includes an additional APP (applecare protection plan), which is another 2 yrs on top of the standard 1 year warranty. therefore you can say that the machine you buy automatically enrols you for the full 3yrs of international warranty.

the price they sell, especially apple products, are controlled. meaning they can never pull lower than what the apple store online is selling. in fact, what you pay for buying at nus is slightly higher because they throw in the freebies.

if you do the sums correctly, there is no difference in buying from authorised retailer at NUS, which is Sapura, or the apple store online.

There is the licensed software that you get from the NUS bundle that you won't get elsewhere. It would likely add up to more.

I am trying to download and do a clean install on my 2011 MBP.
It keeps stopping the download half way :(

Can I use my 2014 Mac Air to do the D/L instead?

Thanks

can, but you must transfer the file to a thumb drive and make it into a bootable disk drive.

That was true in the past. But now, no longer.

Refer to the link for bundled freebies and price:
https://comcen.nus.edu.sg/services/hardware_purchase/apple-notebooks/

Refer to the blog written by our NUS IT officer:
https://zitseng.com/archives/6208

Basically, no bundled software, no microsoft office, no adobe suite...

if sw also not included, then the only last +ve points is the service centre is in school and the possibility to take a loan from the school (NTU has a 0% interest student loan for computers, not sure about NUS though.)

Thanks again, cheers.
