IMAC Display 2nd monitor

Hi guys,

Need some urgent help. I bought the Samsung 27 sd850. Its capable of display up to 2560 x 1440. Any way, It comes with DVI, DP and HDMI connections. I bought the HDMI to mini DP and connect to my IMAC 27 (2014). It works but display resolution limited to 1080p.

I bought another DP to mini DP adaptor but the IMAC refuse to acknowledge the monitor. The monitor keep saying no signal found under DP connection. HDMI is fine.

Any kind souls can help and advise where can I buy a DP to mini DP adaptor proven to work? I saw some adaptors in SLS but cost over $40. I refuse to kenna chop carrot by them.

Thanks for the help

I've been playing around my new rMBP 2015 for a day and it's very easy for windows user like me to do the switch with all the YouTube tutorial to help lol.

And surpsingly, I found my School is offering VMware Fusion 7 free for 2 years! That solve my issue, just a thought should I give it 2 core processor or leave it at 1? I felt that 1 core like laggy at times.

And I installed Windows 8.1 Pro, also provided by school free, the scaling is kind of bad and I can feel the screen not as crisp even tho it's scaled max 2880x1800

Hi guys, need some technical help here. Heres the background: i am running VM fusion (WIN7) on my MBA.

As I my CRM program(Sage Act) only works on Windows, i need a way to sync to my Mac. Problem is I need a separate IP address on the VM. Accessing the internet thru NAT , no problem. ( As VM is using the same IP address to access internet)

However, when I switch to Bridge - WIFI. No more internet access. The Mac side no issues, able to access internet. Its the VM side that's stuck, no internet connection.

Is anyone familiar with the setup of seperate IP address for the VM? I tried the VM forums but no success. Anyone can help?

Thanks.

when u set to bridged mode, it will use dhcp to get an ip from e dhcp server in yr network if u never set any fixed ip. do u have any mac filtering configured on yr dhcp server?(in most home networks, e dhcp server is normally also e router)

I have no problem opening safari on my rMBP. Try CMD+Q safari and launch it again?

On a sidenote, chrome really eats alot of battery on the mac based on my usage. I have no choice but to switch to safari on the macbook.

Pls recommend HDMI to VGA Converter/Adaptor for rMBP mid 2012

Hi all, I am seeking to get a HDMI to VGA Converter as there are times where I need to hook up to projectors that only accepts VGA.

I had previously bought one from Challenger but it doesn't seems to work. My screen blacks out once I connected it to the projector. Nothing is displayed out either or it could be displaying the black screen... I am not sure.:s22:

Anyway, there is nothing I could do to bring back the screen even when I had disconnected it. Eventually, I had to reset the MacBook.

I would appreciate if any kind member can recommend a HDMI-To-VGA Converter/Adaptor that works.

Thank you. :)

Why use HDMI? No thunderbolt (mini display port) on your rmbp? Use a thunderbolt to VGA convertor. That should work just fine. I have an OEM one that works well.

For browsers, Chrome is not the only choice. There's also firefox. I wonder why Mac users hardly mention firefox? It seems that most of them know Safari and Chrome only? :s11:

Safari serves me well so far but I have Firefox installed. Sometimes I switch over to Firefox for surfing, but it's really rare.

Yeah I did forced it quit and retry but still hangs, it's all okay now after couple of restarting tho, now I'm able to surf hardware zone forums with Safari, I believe installing Flash Player helps, the shockwave drivers are acting weird.

Actually I'm using Firefox as my main browser on my desktop PC, due to the fact that I got tons of add-ons to use with Firefox. But what I do realised is that Firefox tends to be the more buggy browser when compared to Safari and Chrome, personal experience tho. So far I think Safari is still the best on Mac OS X :D

PS: Now I'm busy calibrating the display profile, Apple's factory calibrated profiles all are useless lol. But still have to admit the display and coating they used is one of the best, definitely better than Dell new XPS 13.

How are you calibrating your display?

Black Screen of Death

I experience black screen of death when i put my macbook air on sleep and try to wake it up.

i have tried all the methods to wake it up sleep. Doing SMC reset, holding on the power button for 10sec, and contacting the Mac online.

I have been advised to sent my macbook air to the service centre, but my warranty expired.

im using Macboook air mid 2013, been using for about 1.5 years i suppose.

i am an intensive user , only use it for basic purpose like surfing, streaming.

Can anyone advice me how to go about doing this?

rMBP base model - is 128GB enough?

Hi all, I am considering getting the base model 13" Retina MBP, but the flash storage that comes with it is only 128GB SSD. Wondering if this capacity is enough for a student?

If purely school work and you are not a design student should be fine just that you need to be disciplined in your data management. I am a student too and I use only 40GB including OS and Songs and all my documents (business student).

You can choose to go for external hard disk for all your songs pictures etc for entertainment. Anyways there is an education store for students got slight discount

Sent from public payphone near kopitiam using GAGT

I'm a student in a field of science and 128 gb is currently enough for me. That said, I don't store any music or pictures on my rMBP. The documents on my rMBP are purely work-based document.

If you're intending to bootcamp though, I would say 128gb might not suffice, and would recommend 256gb instead. However, if money is not so much an issue, just go ahead and get a 256gb one just to be on a safe side. After all, different people have different pattern of usage.
