Yes, according to them their existing inventory is Mac Mini 2012.

The 2012's have better processing power but weaker IGP. Depends on what you intend to use the Mini for.

I got the lowest end one (i.e. 4GB) w/o RAM upgrade as the specs is already overkill for what I'm intending to use it for - HTPC ... video streaming & web surfing only.

Just going to ditch the HDD for an SSD (I've a few spare ones lying around).

What I really like is Haswell's ultra low power consumption which directly translates to lower heat emission.

is a trade off between upgrade ability and additional 100 bucks

Unless you're concerned with "future proof-ing" your mini, the following shouldn't affect you. If you think you want to change the HDD, hold your horses until more details are released. Even a return policy will not help when one gets stuck halfway into the HDD swap.

While ram is already confirmed non-upgradable by user, the HDD is "upgradable" but not going to be easy. On top of having to go through the other components (Fan, heatsink, antenna), access to T6/T8 torx screwdrivers, the 2014 model will also have tamper-proof screws on the bottom cover. Not sure if these are torx, we'll know when iFixit publishes their teardown.

Place an online order (with Apple) and if the resellers have stock before it is shipped, just cancel the order. This will ensure that you get it asap.

Get a SSD Mac Mini and use an external HDD for the fastest operation...

Hi, can I check if anyone is using the Mac Mini for torrenting? I am thinking of getting one but my current G3220 Intel process is very slow to go to website that has flash and shockwave (dual core 3.0ghz). I am wondering if dual core Mac Mini with hyperthreading will do any better.

Of course the Mac Mini 2.8ghz would be used for watching the videos downloaded and act as a file server to the videos.

I got the 2011 Mac mini and I use it for torrenting. No problems whatsoever.

provided i buy the mid range model with only 1tb non fusiondrive hdd

sure the MM can do what you want, though i think your concerns are not specific; if your phone can load a website fast, the G3220 can do it much faster. you can always turn off flash in chrome, safari turns off flash by default now... download speed (P2P or not) is more dependent on your network setup (gigabit ethernet for LAN and n/ac for WIFI). if your definition of file server is just storing files then the MM will be short on space, but if you are asking about how powerful the media decoding is then the MM is more than capable.

anyway, if your real question is whether you should try out OSX, i don't think this is the right subforum to ask you should direct your question to the AV/HTPC subforum.

actually i think ther'll be no dual hdd support. apple removed the server config in the new MM, meaning there are no dual HDD config even if you chose the more expensive build. why would they keep the extra bay, extra sata and ribbon cable in the MM?

i need the dual bay feature too, because 24/7 via USB3 is not very assuring if you get the non fusiondrive model, there will be an empty PCIe for you to (maybe) use as second drive... totally not worth the effort to go that route.

Thanks for ur reply. Actually i am ready to buy my macbook retina 15 come later this month or next month. The reason why i have big question mark is my recent purchase of the Intel G3220 with a basic SSD is slower than my old Thinkpad with a T9550 on a hdd.

I just bought another 2012 i7 quadcore @ $948 and i5 @ $688.
Yes, 2012 models @ 2014 prices. Its a discount for the long dissapointing wait.
