It's because punggol and sk have a history of high drop out. So usually pungol and sengkang will move fast fast in the beginning but always the last to end because usually selection have to go until the last Q number and there's still some flats left.

In the past there were only 5 cases when hdb abandoned it after not meeting 70%. Sembawang Flowing Grrenery in 2001, Punggol Sundial and Sembawang Springlodge in 2003, Punggol Anthias and Sengkang Coral Green in 2004. After that, never have cases of take up rate less than 70%.

Given that KW is really central located and not many chances to get BTO in these areas, hope ppl do make it to 70%, otherwise it's so wasteful...

Pls correct me if I m wrong.. I tot hdb has changed the policy to have all bto built regardless take-up rate?

source? The term 'BTO' (Built To ORDER) already suggests they will not commence construction if the demand is below a certain level.

However, with such high demand in recent years, they may go ahead to build even with slightly lower take-up rate. The unsold units may then be handled via the balance flats mechanism.

j3ffr3y is actually correct. Khaw has told the HDB in May 2011 to build ahead of demand.

"SINGAPORE : National Development Minister Khaw Boon Wan has told HDB to build ahead of demand during this period of robust demand.

Writing in his ministry's blog, Mr Khaw said the orders will definitely come, and HDB should call a tender as soon as architectural drawings and tender documents are ready.

Currently, a tender is called only after 70 per cent of orders have been confirmed - hence "Build-to-Order" (BTO) scheme.

The minister said HDB can return to the usual BTO approach after the situation has stabilised."

Anyway you can just check GeBIZ to see that they are already calling a tender for "Building Works At Kallang Whampoa Contract 20C" published on 22/06/2012 and closing on 03/08/2012 for McNair.

Yup. For Kallang Whampoa Contract 20C, contract will be awarded somewhere in Nov and expect to see contractor possession of site from Dec 2012.

I wonder if they have a min cut off before they start the building, cannot be below 50% then still go ahead and build ba?

Yes they call for tender now and contract will be awarded only when take up rate has met.If only 50% take up rate i dun think they will proceed to build,remember if the next launce still have in kallang and whampoa i think they will adjust the prices lower and you guys will be holding this baby a high price for it.

My new 18th floor flat at Bendemeer now can't even buy a 2nd floor flat in Bendemeer Light. This is how expensive it has become.
