rt-ac5300 vs gt-ac5300

hi,

i was thinking of upgrading from my nighthawk x6 to either rt-ac5300 or the gt-ac5300.

i am not a gamer person and don't care about the gt-ac5300 is rog for gaming. i also don't care about the extra 4 wired interfaces.

what is concerning me, the big difference in the ram and processor because i am planning to run the customized qos along with traffic monitoring to check the application layer and give sts for bandwidth utilization per user per application.

i believe this DPI feature will put some strains on the processor and might affect the router performance. hence, i was leaning towards the gt-ac5300.

my view is, if there is no big gap difference between both routers cost, like 50$, then definitely will get the gt-ac5300 without hesitation but if there is a big gap and the performance won't matter, then the rt-ac5300 will be a better option.

could you plz feed me back with your opinion noting also that the rt-ac5300 is currently available?

If you are using 1gbps,and you can max out your 1gbps bandwidth, then QoS will definitely help.

Moreover, I don't know if the QoS engine will work for 1gbps bandwidth. It was originally designed for other countries users where their Internet is slower, so the QoS will benefit them. But for us locals with fibre ranging 200mbps to 1gbps, QoS might not be useful..

thx a lot for your feedback... i was wondering about the difference between the RT and GT difference not if i will use QoS or not...

the point is does the extra processing power and RAM worth the extra money to be paid for the GT or shall i get the RT and keep the difference in my pocket?

the processor will definitely come into good use if you are using it intensively. Its designed for gamers who need low latency. Example, if you have a few gamers at home on wired LAN, then it is beneficial.

The firmware based features like prioritisation, link aggregation are examples of process intensive features which the processor will likely to help.

If you are not a gamer, and not someone who pushes boundaries, then the hardware enhancement will likely not noticeable to you as you don't push the hardware to its limit..

Its a rog router, so are you a gamer? If not, i rather you save up for other gadgets..

Another option to consider will be the Linksys EA9500.

Yes.

ROG Rapture GT-AC5300 provides two gaming LAN ports that are optimized for gaming devices. All traffic on these ports is given top priority, so your gaming devices — or any other devices you want to connect to these ports — are always at the head of the internet queue!

- Can I setup two router using one fiber line?
Yes. 1 main, 1 AP

It's at asus website under rog rapture router gt-ac5300 page. Just go to the page and click on support then all the drivers and software would be there:)

I tried using the reset button behind . Only able to get to restoration mode by power on while holding the reset button. Not factory reset , it is not responding to reset input when it is on. Still I was able to restore the firmware but the router is still brick . Pior to bricking , I was overseas and had not done anything to the router and found it to keep restarting when I was back . Now it is stuck with power led white and nth else even with LAN or Wan port plugged in . I was able to unbrick it once but after restarting it was back to same problem . How to reset using wps button ?

Hold down wps button and power up the router. When u see power LED flickers rapidly, release the wps and let it boot up normally..

Thanks for the tip . My router was dead and brought down to service centre to change . Got back with same problem but this time able to factory reset with WPS button . It seems to be problem with the newest firmware . I revert back to the old one and it is fine now . With the newest firmware , I cannot reboot and it would cause the router to not boot up and stuck with power led .

Thanks for the link, both the link from you and asus have the same problem . The MD5 does not match too . So I am not sure whether the file is broken or typo from asus . I tried flashing with file from both sources . Same thing happen . Reboot and stuck in endless boot cycle with no wifi led lighting up . Also tried resetting and only setup WAN . Hard reset via the power switch is fine but any software reset such as via mobile app , web browser , or scheduled reboot would cause the router to get stuck in the endless loop and required factory reset via WPS button to get it back . (Reset via reset button not working ) . I am using the latest firmware ending with 10766. First time I encounter so much problem with a router and I have already RMA twice already still problems . I'll have to agree with that we put in so much money ended up beta testing for somebody . Too much of a hassle for a 500 plus product when you expect the best for paying a premium for it . My RT68U is working perfectly for past few years but after this upgrade hell broke loose and I am troubleshooting since the first day =(

@hanliang did you managed to get into any setup page while connect computer using lan?

I have encountered this before, I did hard reset a few times and connect my computer to Lan and update settings.

Hope it helps.

Thanks for the tip . I was able to get into the setup page but I need to factory reset via WPS button and reconfigure everytime I reboot it in order to get out of the endless loop cycle . I tried reflash the firmware several times , and it's still the same even with the newly replaced unit from avertek . Hard reboot using on off switch is fine , software reboot using app , browser will cause the endless loop cycle. I tried leaving it for 8 hours to see if it can get out of the cycle but it is the same . And it would eventually stuck with power led and nothing else . Same situation before I RMA but improved with me able to factory reset . Still not a permanent solution having to factory reset everytime I reboot .

Your case looks pretty odd and out of the ordinary.

As you can see my ASUS Rapture GT-AC5300 uptime is 18 days and counting on firmware 10397 and currently on firmware 10766 which i haven't experienced any anomaly or sort which result endless boot loop.

Firmware 10397

Firmware 10776

Care to post in here your detail setup and settings (what other settings are enabled/disabled - apart those factory default settings that is fresh out of the box) so we can see whether we (ASUS TW) are able to replicate the problem/issue and work towards in resolving it.

Difference between ASUS RT-AC5300 and ASUS Rapture GT-AC5300

I will post a more detail post ~ what is triple level game accelerator is all about shortly.

Apart from the triple level game accelerator ~ there is a forth accelerator ~ Runner (Hardware NAT and Flow Cache) which is enabled by default.

There is Green Energy Ethernet in play as well ;)
