Stay clear of the AC87U if you don't want to be saddled with issues and half-****** performance like the AC66U which you are using now. I have 2 units of the AC66U lying in my tech graveyard after years of dealing with frequent wifi signal issues.

Thus far, I would say the AC68U are trusted workhorse routers if you don't need all the fancy features and I have two of them powering my VQ and Starhub networks. As for the AC88 and AC5300, they are both still too new at this stage to have any form of conclusion. So far the AC88 which I'm using as a Access Point / Switch is functioning fine with only one instance of the Wifi suddenly stop working and requiring a reboot to recover.

I also have another AC3200 which I'm using as a AP / Switch as well. So far I'm not impressed with the Smart-Connect feature for this router and have also seen several instances where the Wifi cease to work and requires a reboot to recover.

Ac87u is that bad? I read that the firmware is stable now? Ac87u is bundled by MR now so no choice to get ac68u also, but ac87u will be future proofed right

Help needed on Guest Wifi setting.

I am currently on the latest AC88U official firmware.

I am trying to set up a Guest Wifi network on schedule: eg 1200-1600H daily.
How do I do that?

I do not want to use parental control because that will mean I have to tie the device's MAC to a particular schedule. I want the freedom to log onto non-guest wifi whenever I want.

Hi nezz78,

New batch will be arriving shortly in Singapore due to shortage. Please do take note that for we are not able to provide warranty for overseas units. :D

Thanks!

Can't find it anywhere, when will the new stocks arrive in stores? Please let us know. Thanks.

Your hoot or just snapping the picture and upload? ;)

RMerlin should be releasing his firmware for the ASUS RT-AC88U soon.

If you managed to get hold of RMerlin's firmware and are using it, feel free to PM me for the stock shipping firmware (3.0.0.4.380.664) if you want to revert back. ASUS support haven't update their servers as yet.

Steps to check the AC88U router temps (on ASUS stock firmware)

1). Enable telnet access and telnet in (using putty for example)
2). Type cat /proc/dmu/temperature for BCM 47094 SoC
3). Type wl -i eth1 phy_tempsense for 2.4GHz WiFi 4366
4). Type wl -i eth2 phy_tempsense for 5GHz WiFi 4366

Enjoy and feel free to feedback your AC88 experiences if it's your hoots ^^

I'm a newbie to Asus routers and read that it works seamlessly with Singtel/Mio TV out of the box with the stock firmware. Does the RMerlin firmware have support for Singtel/Mio TV?

yes of course. RMerlin firmware does not remove any stock feature...

The 5ghz channels no issue at all? Rt87u 5ghz channels sound so hit and miss

I won't say ac88u is impeccable. But trust me, ac88u is operated by broadcom chipset and it's far better than QTN.. you won't regret ac88u if only you find the price easy to swallow.. :D

Is the range of the AC88U much better than the AC3200? I am using AC3200 but realised that the range is so so as I need to setup another access point for my bedroom.

Hi brothers
My AC88 sporadically loses all internet connectivity (LAN/WAN access remains ok when that happens) for LAN and Wifi. Nothing but a hard reboot will solve the problem. Is this possibly a hardware problem? None of the previous Asus routers I've used ever had a single sporadic problem such as this. Should I do a factory reset as a first probe into the problem? Any advice appreciated. Thanks!

Hi vagus1978,

As you mentioned AC88U trunks to HP Procurve Switch is NOT OK, it means can't reach 2Gbps speed or has no connectivity?

Did you ever try the scenario as below:

HP Procurve configuration:
Trunk1: Port1 and Port2, mode: LACP active
Trunk2: Port3 and Port4, mode: LACP active

RT-AC88U LAN 1 & LAN 2 === HP 1810-24G Port 1 & Port 2
NAS LAN1 & LAN2 === HP 1810-24G Port3 & Port4

If possible, could you please provide your LACP settings on HP Procurve Switch?

Thanks,

Rephrase my convoluted question here (hope to get some answers)

Can AC88U Link Aggregate/Tunk/Bond to a managed switch? I cannot seem to be able to get it to work.

AC88U === Synology NAS.......OK
AC88U === HP Procurve Switch.........NOT OK
HP Procurve Switch === Synology NAS........OK
