Hi JK,
Will NAT loopback for NAS be fixed in the next firmware release ? When can we expect the new firmware ?

On several occasions when accessing the internet, I felt that the router connection is broken although the iOS/android devices showed that the wifi connection is still strong. However, when I off the wifi and switched to 4G network immediately, the connection came back instantly. These broken connections usually last for 30s to 60s. I really cannot confirm if it is due to wifi connection but every time I switched to 4G network, it works again. Hope Asus can investigate this further. Thanks.

Anyone connecting a CPU cooler to their AC87U to keep temps down? :s13: Would attaching a USB device like that interfere with the signals by any chance?

I have used a usb fan to blow my AC68. Most of them even under extreme environment, the temperature is around 65deg. Did not observe any difference in performance with or without fan. I am just happy to see the reported temperature below 70

Well, I must some kind of luck... Tried plugging in a usb powered laptop cooler into the back panel USB 2.0 port, fan cooler wouldn't spin. Tried plugging into the front USB 3.0 port, fan still wouldn't spin.

Tested the laptop cooler by plugging into a macbook, fan spins.

Did the same tests with a USB thumb drive, the USB 2.0 and the USB 3.0 ports on the AC87U doesn't read.

USB port DOA?

Dear decafie,

Please bring your router to avertek service centre for testing and please call them to check available stock for exchange.

I have received my AC87u today and I tried to setup my AC66u as a media bridge to it.

Surprisingly, the link speed is only at 450Mbps regardless of what I tweak. Even after a factory reset, it still hit out at 450Mbps only.

I was under the assumption the speed can be faster but apparently the AC66u has some problem in Media Bridge mode.

Both are running the latest Merlin. Appreciate any advice in speeding up the AC66u.

Thanks

Dear GoDSLaYeR,

I unable to assist you, if you are using unofficial firmware.

Please flash official firmware and hardreset your router.

Its alright now. Managed to boost it to 975Mbps link.

Though I wondered, on a best case real life scenario, how fast can the AC66u and AC87u go up to in media bridge mode?

Thanks

hi guys, got my ac87u two days ago, but the wireless range on 2.4GHz is worse than my old n56u. both are on the same places an firmware is the last one.

when i connect to the ac87u over telnet and insert the command "wl txpwr_target_max" i got as result 12.0 12.0 12.0 which should be 15,8mW...this could explain the worse range..

can someone look at his ac87u this command "wl txpwr_target_max" an tell me if my value 12.0 is correct?

thx

Dear cyber8607,

Shouldn't have such problem.

Did you connect the antenna correctly? can you try do an hard reset and test again?

Please provide 2.4Ghz & 5Ghz settings.

Hi thx for the answer,

i think so, that i connected the antennas correctly. I connected them all 4 shown the picture in the manual, with the both outside antennas in a degree of 45.
For the test i disconnected them and the signal got worse, so they was securely connceted correctly.

I left the 2.4 Ghz & 5Ghz settings by default. The only one i change is SSID and WPA Pre-Shared Key.

I did the reset, press the reset button at the back side for 30 seconds. Than i reconfigured PPPoE for internet and SSID and Preshared Key for WLAN.
Same horrible WLAN Range on 2.4Ghz.
I have looked in to the Professional Setting of 2.4 and 5 ghz and both have 100% "Tx power adjustment" and the "Reducing USB 3.0 interference" is enabled

My old Asus N56U has sadly a better 2.4Ghz coverage than the new AC87U

regards

thank you! your router is transmitting 6 time more than mine.

did you have a US Modell? you can find it out with this command "cat /dev/mtd0 | grep ccode"

mine is EU Modell. Maybe i have to find one, which have EU Modell too to compare..

Hi Guys,
I just bought the RT-AC87U yesterday.
Upgraded the FW version to : 3.0.0.4.376_2769.
I was previously using the RT-N66U model without any problem.

My 4 Ethernet PORTs setup.
PORT 1 and 2 are connected to a QNAP NAS.
PORT 3 to an 8 port External Ethernet Switch.
( Connected devices on the External Switch are IP Cam and a WD Media Player )
PORT 4 Singtel MIO. Is working fine.( Switch control Level 2 CTF )
Total of 4 wired devices ( NAS, IP Cam, Media Player & Singtel MIO Box).

All Wireless Configuration are at default settings.

I seem to have slow response issues to the 3 wired IP devices connected directly to the router ports. Ports 1, 2 and 3.
I realize the problem when my IP camera is not recording very well ( I receive alerts every 15 mins about lost connection to the camera ).
The Media player was also pausing frequently when playing a movie streamed from the NAS.

Using the Router Network tool I tried to PING these 3 addresses using count 5( default ) and 9 ( max ).
All 3 IP addresses returns packet loss.
between 40% to 80% loss most of the time.
If I Ping any wireless device I have no such problems. Always 0% packets loss.

Can you advice what I should be looking into.
I tried to change the Switch control CTF Level to 1.
It seem to improve on the camera recording but media player is still jerking and I still have packet loss when doing the PING test to all 3 Wired devices.

I do not have any of the above issues when using the RT-N66U previously.
Your kind advice is greatly appreciated.

Just bought the ac87u.

Got a question. In new BTOs,the TP is in the utility box and the whole house has structured cabling done. I will be using the gigabit TP link Wdr4900 router to be placed inside the utility box run on wired connection to my AC87U placed at another area. My ac87u will be connected to one of the LAN ports in my home that is LAN/wired connected to the TP link Wdr4900 router. The AC87u will then be my wireless AP serving the wireless connection in the home while the tplink wdr4900 serves the LAN portion in the home.

Will this setup be good? Or will my asus ac87u be bottlenecked by the tp link router? Sorry I am not too knowledgeable in this area.

I assume it will not be because the tplink router is running on gigabit ethernet to the ac87u.

New BTOs got no choice but to have 2 routers because if I just put the ac87u in the utility box as the main router serving both LAN and wireless needs, the wireless connection will be bad because the utility box has a door and will always be closed thus affecting wireless coverage.

Or I should ditch my tplink wdr4900 and place the asus ac87u inside the utility box to provide LAN connection and get another wireless AP to complement the ac87u?

First option will be better?

Advice?

any help on this?
