It's seems like there is even more thread discussion at Apple discussion forums on their Apple product Wifi drop or cause router problems.

When connecting to a TP-LINK router (841ND) , wifi status was connected but cannot pass through any data.
Some of my friend's iphone6 had trouble with TP-LINK.

Just updated to 8.2, but the problem still persists. Resetting the network settings of the iPhone works for about a day, then the wifi becomes ultra slow again. You can see this in the screenshot of my speedtest results. This is becoming very frustrating. An E800 phone should not have these problems!!
IMG_4603.PNG

I have EXACTLY the same issue.

Exact same behaviour!

Also resetted network settings which lasts for about a day. => same issue again

Also deactivated the privacy setting for WIFI search. => no change

WIFI base station: Apple Time Capsule. Also changed to a Fritz.Box 7390 => same issue

Using WIFI with 5GHz only
iOS version: 8.1.2
Time Capsule Version: latest (today)

check my speeds. Internet speed should have around 6MBit/s.

Very frustrating!

Really?!!? No I'm not doing none of that!! Apple needs to fix their crap!

More and more feedback from worldwide at Apple forums.

Same Problems here. Download Performance Drops down. Upload is ok. Tested with ookala speedtest.
Try to resolve the Prob with Apple Support.
Change Transmit Channel on the AP. Try out all Channels.
After turn off/on Wifi on the Iphone; Performance Problems are back.
Now Apple exchanges my Iphone 6

Mine is doing the exact same. Tried restarting router and modem, restored network settings then restored entire iPhone. Please be software.

Mine is having the exact same issue, mine even says unable to connect and incorrect password when I know it's right. I have 2 routers and they both do the same, my iPhone 5 is fine

ive done hard resets, reboots and restored it today and still no change

I Have a iphone 6, and having the same problem. Resting the phone or the network settings fixes it for a short time, but the problem always reappears. My wife's iPhone 5 started doing the same thing after upgrading to iOS 8. Its not my router either, it does the same thing on any network I connect to.

Having the same issue. iPhone 6 will suddenly drop wifi and then can't locate any. Powering off and/or reset of network settings seems to do the trick but I don't want to go through that on a daily basis. Hoping this is a software issue. I have an iPad mini running 8 and it's fine. Also have my iphone4 and its fine as well. Only this iPhone6 loses wifi.

WE have 3 iPhone 6 64gb slate grey and mine is the only was being kick of wi fi constantly worse part is I was busy listening to music app last tonite and most time probably I was kick off which is just great one of the fastest way to burn up ur costly data threw verizon this is very serious and can be costly this is a serious is that can cost people more money

Unfortunately I don't have a android tablet with 5G to check. If it is issue with MacBook Pro, iPhones, then why 2.4ghz ok?

Looking at the specs looks AC87U looks damn good but performance really ......

Networking - RT-AC87U - ASUS

Guys

What is the difference in 68U vs 87U? If 68U is good and stable, I will write in to Taiwan and ask for exchange + cash back. Quite crap having inconsistent performance

Not all user with 5G issue wor..

For us that working set the spec live up to the advertisment..

At 40percent tx power it cover my unit of 110sqm... Including close door into master room toilet...:D

Even when I leave home close main door walk to the lift about 40m away from door .... Still get 1 bar and surf net easily..

I can confirm the coverage is good ...

As mentioned earlier it may be the in-built wifi adapter faulty. Based on online review this AC87U is same same as Netgear so should not be a issue. Funan ASUS store told me that the New Service Centre is at Burn Road.

But many here RMA and back home still same issue....
So there are many set of 87U with wifi adaptor faulty around........?

Should be able to resolve by the next firmware.. if no resolution by the next, i think we should team up and join forces..

Most of my connected devices are Apple, and while most of my connection issues were resolved on the previous version of the asus firmware, things have gone downhill again with 378_3885.

While Apple hardware/software might be partially to blame for connection issues, it doesn't account for all the issues we have been facing, especially in my instance where on the last firmware version ALL my apple devices were working without connection problems, and yet now don't work for me. Downgrading the firmware, and everything works again.

We should all be able to agree that Asus lost the plot entirely by releasing this device with such shoddy firmware, and that they still haven't havent released a version that is up to standard. When such a large portion of the world's devices are Apple, I would have thought they would have spent a lot of time making sure it worked beforehand. I expect some clean up issues that needed to be corrected when new hardware is released, but this level of incompetent release and support is just ridiculous.

More and more feedback from worldwide at Apple forums.

+1 for you...

Where is your source from?
Please show us the market share of apple devices and OS market share.

I personally only know of 1 person that has no IOS devices, all the rest have IOS devices.

I also do agree, this router should have never left the bench at Asus
1. heat issues (ONLY a laptop cooler under mine cured LAG PS4 problems)
2. swapped my 87 for a new one and lots of issues went away (most likely from the lack of NO laptop cooler on that one)
3, I read that the other versions from other manufactures HAVE fixed many of the issues WE still have today. (and they came out after, and produce less heat also)

Now Asus I know this is my first post here BUT I learned a lot more than I should have with this router. Please fix it! PLEASE!

5 to 6 months into this and still issues,

Issues,
1. Router needs to be rebooted (either 5GHz does not work and or 2.4GHz also has issues) every 2-5 days.
2. Without a laptop cooler under it, all kinds of issues (wired or wifi) , IE. PS4 lag, router has to be rebooted daily or 2 days, ect...
3. VLAN errors (I know you are working on it)
4. Can only view my DVR (from app on my phone) while connected to wifi with "NAT Accretion" OFF (using WAN IP), BUT with it off I get a little PS4 lag. Works fine when not connected to my wifi.
5. with Nat Acceleration off my playback of my test movies (usb hard drive plugged into USB 2.0 or 3.0 port on router) play absolutely fine, BUT with it on "auto" movie playback can be choppy at times intermittently.

Some of my 5GHz problems went away with the latest firmware, BUT I had to also replace my 87 with a new one to get rid of other issues, I am constantly testing this, because I need it to work perfectly, PLEASE FIX!

EDIT:
#1 seems good on day 4 so far, I did have to internal reboot the router after 3 days when first installed (my replacement router that is)

#2 is adding laptop cooler, kind of sucks but I can live with that.

#3 you're working on that from what I read.

#4 is also working with NAT Acceleration on auto so far, and NO signs of PS4 lag, this is great.

I am still working testing my #5

I did have to turn wifi off and on on my iphone 6+ on day 3, but 5GHz was still zippy and useable. I can live with this, tho I should not have to, but it may be apple also or totally.

I never claimed it was a majority of devices, but just a large portion.I fully understand that android and non-Apple computer manufacturers dominate sales, but Apple still maintains a10-20% market share. To me this is sufficient enough to not have been ignored by Asus. I would expect from a global device manufacturer with such a diverse user base such as Asus, that they would have sufficiently tested the router beforehand.

SmallNetBuilder Forums - View Single Post - ASUS RT-AC87U design flaw?

According to this user from SNB, he removed the thermal pads and replaced them with his own thermal grease. The results of replacing the pads with the grease produced lower temperature.

I'm deciding should i get an USB fan to blow at my unit, or wait for hardware revision?

This is my current temperatures with a standing fan blowing directly at it for more than 10mins:
ASUSWRT RT-AC87U_3.0.0.4 Mon Jan 12 03:10:08 UTC 2015
admin@RT-AC87U:/tmp/home/root# qcsapi_sockrpc get_temperature
temperature_rfic_external = 0.0
temperature_rfic_internal = 55.2
temperature_bbic_internal = 60.0
admin@RT-AC87U:/tmp/home/root# cat /proc/dmu/temperature
CPU temperature : 58?C

Superb 5Ghz performance... :D
