Fibre Termination point -- Router(pace) -- GB Switch (if need >4 GB ports) -- structural cabling -- each LAN port -- equipment or Access Point w switch(ea6200) -- equipment via wifi

Currently using the above setup with pace singtel provided for the router and linksys ea6200 as another wifi router.

Had the ac68 but somehow stopped using it cos i couldn't get it to replace pace router previously. Anyway, am thinking of getting the ac87 now.

Few questions:

1) Should i use ac87 or ac68 to replace the pace router
2) assuming point 1 is ac87 than I was thinking of using ac68 as an AP. I wanna use as an AP using the same ssid as my ac87 so that I can have a seamless transition connecting between the 2 different wifis. (One is on first flr and another is on the 2nd flr)

Note: 2nd flr is where I have the most connections to the router. Mainly IOS devices and a laptop.

Any other suggestions? On my ipad air, I am getting a download speed of about 60mbps. Am using singtel 500mbs now. Isn't the speed i am getting now very slow?
Pls advise. Thanks.

Most Asus (and other brands') routers are now capped at ~200mW transmit power due to IDA regulation.

Thus you will not see significant improvement in range. Maybe slightly due to better antennae or if you upgrade to high gain antennae, but if you are already having a wifi dead zone, it will not help much.

Don’t forget that it's a 2-way communication, the device at the other end also needs to be "heard" by the router thus without upgrading the other end you might still have range issues.

What high gain antenna would you suggest that is compatible with the ac87? I too am having worse reception than with my previous router.

I changed switch_stb_x from 6 to 0 via telnet. This is to release VLAN tagging for Port 3 & 4 for local use. BTW, I'm not with ST.

Thanks. wonder why this setting was not included in the UI to allow ppl like me to select base on my need instead have to manually perform it.

should have seen this post before i went out and got one.. lol

Lol, exact same situation. It's highly likely that it's firmware issue but you're basing it on wireless or wired speeds?

Sorry....as in better than ac87? Any other advise regarding my above questions? Thanks.

i'm lead to believe so as i'm able to achieve much higher throughput with my iphone 5 on my friend's airport extreme vs my own ac68u and n66u

could also be his environment has lesser wifi interference

i'm not sure how has st changed, at one stage miotv has to be on so that there will not be slowdowns on the internet. might be better off asking in st threads.
